Our first experience at the RGS we accidentally parked in the bus zone directly out front. Not realising it was a bus zone, we were asked to move by the staff which was absolutely fine, but as we were leaving to move the car, we overheard the staff behind the counter whisper "I cant believe they parked in a bus zone", which was unnecessary and rude. The second time we came at 3:10 in the afternoon on a Sunday and were told that they had stopped serving food at 3pm even though google said they were open from 10am-8pm. We would have spent at least $50-$60 and there were no other customers in sight. The third time we came we made sure we were there before 3. As we were ordering our food we asked if we could get bacon on one of our burgers. The waitress didn't seem sure, which was strange as bacon is listed as a side on the menu. But she said she would ask and let us know. She then proceeded to charge us, with poor communication as to whether or not she was charging us for the bacon or not. She brought out our burgers and there was no bacon and that was that. The burgers were tasty but incredibly messy. Whether or not she actually asked the chef, we don't know because she didn't tell us. Poor. After our meal we got ice creams to takeaway. A double scoop cost $6 and each scoop was the size of a ping pong ball. Was the ice cream laced with gold? The last time we came was a Saturday night at 8:30 with 5 hungry people wanting take away adding up to over $150 profit. There were approx. 5 staff on and 15-20 people dining in. We were told that they shut at 8 and that they did not do takeaways after 5 on a Saturday night. I'm sure your profits would exceed if you realise you're a burger place in Ranelagh in the Huon Valley, not Brunswick, Melbourne. The Indian place we went to instead were closing as we arrived but saw how much money they could make and continued to serve us anyway. That's the difference between a pretentious business and a successful business. It seems every time we visit, there is something negative to walk away with. The customer service is average and at times make us feel uncomfortable and like its a burden for them to be serving us. Again, it's...
Read moreIf it was my first visit here I would say it's ok. The staff are polite. The place is clean, and the food, although limited to just burgers, chips, and loaded fries, is expensive ($18 for a burger and another $6 for chips), but tastes good, and I would wish the owners luck and hope they would improve the menu and atmosphere...
However after several visits to the old RGS under the old ownership it was a venue of choice with great atmosphere, a great menu, and food for any desire at reasonable prices. I enjoyed going there and went regularly. Unfortunately both the atmosphere, and most of the menu have been removed and the place feels very sterile. The old owners were pleased you came. The new staff are trained to say "May I take your order" and "Have a nice day". For me this was a place I loved to go, but now it's a place I would only visit for convenience. With it not being personally convenient I am sad to say I probably won't be back.
If you want a tasty burger or fries and don't mind paying for it then it's still ok.

Read moreI ordered ahead on line and my order wasn't ready when I arrived, which was fine as I was a couple of minutes early. But a takeaway order was put out only a minute later. The young girl serving then went on to serve 6 people who came in. Another takeaway order was put out and when she checked, mine was actually the first one, which had been sitting there for about 10 minutes. Which meant that the chips had already cooled down and the hot meat in the burger had wilted the lettuce. I understand that it was busy, but in between each customer being served, it would be a good idea to check on takeaways being ready for those already waiting for their orders. Perhaps it was a one-off and the burger and chips are really good. I have eaten in a couple of times and the food was served as soon as it was ready. For those times, 5 stars for...
