We booked in for a lunch a week before attending. We had driven up from Hobart as my wife had always liked Clover Hill and was looking forward to going there. Upon arrival we had a tasting of the wines. The lady who did the tasting was polite and good at explaining the products. That was as good as the experience got. We asked if we could look at what was available to eat as it was a choice of a cheese platter or some small tapas type plates when we booked. The lady informed us she had not been briefed on the days food but will have someone come assist. We were informed there was nothing other than cheese as the chef (stretch referring to this person as a chef) was only focusing on the two tourist groups in. These groups totaled no more than 12 people at the most. When I asked why we were not informed as we booked and where told of what was on offer. The person said "we don't do that" which I think is poor. My wife asked where we could eat elsewhere then as she was looking for a food experience and we were told there were cafes with pastries or go to Launceston. When leaving we were given the tasting at no cost. Considering the time, fuel and bad experience that did not make us feel better about now having to replan our day.
I will say thank you to Clover Hill as we found some great small non commercial vineyards that gave us an amazing experience. We have so many bottles of great wine now and contacts we will never buy Clover Hill again.
Do yourself a favour and support the smaller wineries as they treat you well. Their wines are better as they put heart into the making. I guess that Clover Hill forgot that locals kept wineries going in Tasmania...
Read moreThe best thing about Clover Hill is that once you've come all that way you may as well discover some of the other, smaller, kinder wineries nearby! We were on a tasting trip up the Tamar and decided to head in for a tasting. Immediately we found the staff extremely cold and really couldn't care less if we were there or not. We got quite excited to hear that the table next to us got to taste the premium $150 a bottle sparkling, but when it didn't come out for us we asked for it, but were told that that wine isn't for tasting. It was pretty obvious that you had to be middle-aged and quite well dressed to get good service in this place, which we were neither (but we enjoy a good drop nonetheless). The whole experience left a metaphorical bad taste, and even though the wines were good we...
Read moreThe wine is incredible, but the experience was not good… the staff were quite cold especially the young man and seemed extremely frustrated that we were there despite how polite we were. You had to pay for your tasting as well as any bottle of wine you buy which would have been okay except for when I expressed my surprise the young male staff member made some comments under his breath about “it being like that everywhere”. I found that incredibly rude given I was nothing but friendly with him and was buying a $70 bottle of wine. The man seemed to hate us being there which was very uncomfortable. I wish the wine was equal to the experience, because then it would have been incredible instead of strangely cold...
