Not sure what to say about the experience today really. Dropped in for lunch just after 1pm today and walked into a few tables of people dining. Approached the bar and the friendly chap said just grab a table and the specials are on the board. Sat down and looked at the menu and couldn't see where the specials board was as it had been moved from the wall since our last visit. The female owner came out into the dining room and I asked her about the specials board today and that was a big mistake it seemed. She rudely responded if we want specials we need to book or call ahead at this time of the year and how she's having surgery soon and doesn't have time to update it. Woah Nelly! We were told about the specials on the board to look for when we walked in by the chap behind the bar! Anyway, she them stormed off and came back and planted the specials board agressively next to us on the floor and walked back into the kitchen. I don't know what had happened prior that day or to us walking in, but I was very close to just walking out and driving further to Hamilton for lunch instead. On a previous visit she had been abrupt but friendly enough and the food was good so we wanted to return for a lunch passing through Ouse homeward bound today. But today she was just rude. We ended up placing an order off the standard menu with the elderly chap behind the bar who was friendly and pleasant throughout. She brought the meals out and seemed to not be so annoyed with the world but her initial response made me a bit despondent. The meals again were good. If slow days in pre winter Tassie for midweek lunch are that hard and difficult, don't open. Don't make your repeat customers feel like they are an inconvenience to you, to ask for what the specials are especially when told to when we walked in. It just felt like she didn't want to be there today and it made us feel not to bother again. Disappointing, as we had been telling friends of how good the last lunch was we had there food wise. Lunch spoilt .... ironically friendly service is written on board outside. May need to amend that depending on her...

Called the hotel and they were a live saver and had available room for the night for $100. Bargain. The hotel host was chatty, and welcoming and showed us to our room. The room was basic and clean, with a vanity basin 🤷🏻♂️. Shared bathrooms, nothing fancy. The only complaint was there were no towels in our room but the other rooms had towels on the beds. Didn’t bother making an issue out of it as we had our own with us. We had dinner downstairs, scraped in our order just before the kitchen closed at 8. Ordered the soup of the day with some chips. Homestyle cooking. Would I recommend it and would I stay there again? It’s ok, and it was great in a pinch, and would stay there again if needed, but if you’re too fancy, then it’s probably...

Friendly locals to talk to in the bar. Not a very talkative or friendly barman though.|Rooms clean, but very basic. Ours had no heating & no electric blankets but other rooms were open so I sourced a heater myself as overnight temp was zero. I retuned this the following morning. No TV in accomodation rooms or common area. A kind of continental breakfast supplied in a hallway/stairway near our rooms. Coffee, tea, hot chocolate there for us. Showers were hot.|The dearest accomodation over our 4 day moto ride @ $80.per room & the poorest in regards to quality of amenities, but better...
