If you are going to charge for fine dining, give us fine dining.
We have booked the 8 courses Omakase $250 per person. We felt the experience as ok and nothing beyond that.
Let's start with the dishes. The eggplant, that was a great start, nice flavour and texture!
Sashimi crayfish with wassabi sorbet, this was a very good flavour and very creative. The execution was not ideal, if they were served in a spoon would be better. The crayfish was finely choped and was very hard to get it using chopsticks.
Red morwong karaage, this was not great. Understood the idea, but the expectation of having a very crispy piece of fish to be a karaage wasn't there, and the truffle didn't add almost anything to the dish. Very disappointing.
The nambanzuke, that was nothing wrong with it, but also nothing special about it.
The wagyu, this was also another high point of the dinner. The beef was well executed, and the sauce together with garlic was delicious.
The three sushi - the squid was very thick, making it an unpleasant experience. The blue mackerel was ok, and the otoro tune was good but didn't taste very fresh. I was expecting them to follow the plan to have local sourced fish. Bluefin tuna was there just to deliver a fancy layer to it.
Crayfish miso - this was very delicious, one of the best parts of the dinner
Pudding with pomegranate sorbet, this dessert didn't make any sense. Each of them individually were great, together horrible. I'm not sure what happened there.
In general, below average experience. Not a good selection of wine and very expensive. For sake, the same thing.
I reckon 250 dollars not worth it at all, the flavour was there most of the time. The execution wasn't and you didn't feel in a fine dinning experience. Another thing for the experience, please explain what we are eating!!! There was no explanation about the food, how was made, just the text on the paper. The Nambamzuke is not a well-known type of food, we could get a little bit...
Read moreWe booked this place for a fine dining experience, 8 course tasting menu, for New Years Eve as we were staying in a house nearby. We were told on our booking confirmation to arrive for 6pm. We arrived just before. We were shown to comfortable sofa to sit and enjoy the view ( it was a very grey night but that’s not important it must be amazing on a clear day). We ordered a bottle of wine from a limited wine list which was quite expensive. Again it’s NYE so expected. Then there we sat until 7pm. No nibbles. Not much atmosphere. No sign of any NYE celebrations? We had not eaten much beforehand as it was a tasting menu and due to a stomach condition I was unable to drink my wine on an empty stomach. Other diners arrived and were served food. Perhaps it was because we were outside guests? The staff were lovely and eventually my husband asked why the wait to be told that the main tasting menu wasn’t starting until 7 pm! We showed them our confirmation booking which advised 6pm no later and were simply told oh that must be a mistake. Hopefully this will be rectified as waiting an hour with no food or nibbles less than ideal if you are drinking alcohol. Then about 12 diners began the main event whilst others upped and left. If you like Japanese food then I am sure it was good. My husband enjoyed it all. The serving staff were all excellent. The downside was the timing issue and lack of any atmosphere in the dining room. For 195AUD pp plus 100 for drinks a little effort could have been made to distinguish this evening...
Read moreSome restaurants just click, and for us, this is definitely one of them. We were so impressed after our first dinner that we simply had to return the very next night, and we're so glad we did!
We had the Teishoku set meal on the first night, and it was an absolute masterclass in balanced flavours and exquisite presentation. Every element, from the perfectly fried Tonkatsu to the delicately prepared fish and other side dishes, was a testament to the chef's skill and attention to detail. It was a truly authentic and satisfying experience that left us eager for more.
For our second night, we dived into the Shabu Shabu, and it was every bit as phenomenal. The quality of the ingredients, from the thinly sliced meats to the freshest vegetables, was outstanding. The broth was rich and flavourful, and the interactive dining experience made for a wonderfully fun and delicious evening. It's clear that whether you choose a set meal or a more hands-on option, the commitment to exceptional produce and flavour shines through.
Beyond the incredible food, the service was truly exceptional. The staff were incredibly welcoming, attentive, and genuinely enthusiastic, adding so much to our enjoyment on both occasions. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, making you feel cozy from the moment you step in. We can't recommend this restaurant highly enough. Whether you're looking for a meticulously crafted set meal or a delightful shabu shabu experience, you're in for a treat. We're already planning...
