AVOID AVOID AVOID. There is so much better places to go to, and I should’ve listened to what other travellers had said and not bothered, but I had been in communication with this pub several times over the past couple of weeks to make sure that they had something that I could eat, and I was hiking in the area. I have dietary restrictions, so I always check and they reassured me more than once that I would have something to eat. I passed several other lunch options today before coming into Pyengana as I was promised a meal. When I arrived, I was told that in fact there was NO MEAL that was vegan and gluten-free or even vegetarian and gluten-free. I pulled up the messages and showed them, from the owners, reassuring me that I would have no issues ordering a meal that was both vegan and gluten-free. I asked to speak to whoever does the messaging so that they understood that because of their lack of care, and them being the only pub for many kilometres around, I would now be going hungry - But I was told no one would come out and speak to me, I was welcome to ring later (there’s no Telstra reception there). If you have any dietary restrictions, this is NOT the place. And according to other travellers, it’s not worth stopping at even if you don’t. Disappointed and angry doesn’t even begin to cover how...
Read moreFabulous pub! Very good value for money. We stayed here on Wed 23/04/2025 and absolutely enjoyed it. The bar is so cosy & full of character! We had the best pub dinner here after a full day of driving & sight seeing, so delicious. We had Surf & turf with veg & mash and the honey glazed pork with mash & veg. The wood fireplaces inside the dining room & pub were so lovely on a cool rainy night/day. There’s a fire pit out the front & stunning views of mountains & dairy farm country all around the pub. Pyengana is truly beautiful and peaceful. The beds in our room 1 were so comfy & warm. The shared toilets and bathrooms were very clean and lovely hand soaps, body wash, shampoo and conditioner to use. Great music playing outside the pub, they very kindly turned it off just after closing which was before 9pm giving us a great sleep. There’s cereals & milk, toast, spreads, tea & coffee and towels provided for your stay. Fantastic little pub & accommodation very reasonable price & there’s a cute beer drinking pig called Priscilla on the property (she was sleeping in her little house when we left as it was raining). Friendly staff, great food....
Read moreThe venue is nice with a rustic setting and cozy interior. The bar area and the service and staff are also fine. It could easily be attracting diners from St Helens and more tourists, but there is one thing holding it back - lousy food! We went there for the first time recently and ordered pub style food including fish and chips, chicken snitzel, and calamari. All three of these dishes were made with frozen pre-made main ingredients. Unbelievable that a pub kitchen cannot make fresh crumbed chicken, or that frozen fish and calamari would be used only 30mins from the largest fishing town on the east coast of Tasmania! The worst aspect of this is that those lousy frozen ingredients would be costing them more than making fresh food, and they could easily charge a little more if the fresh seafood costs extra. Whatever the reason, the owners should fix this - customers will notice and...
