Good food in a secluded place. S41°39'04.0"S E145°04'41.3" You have the possibility to prepare your meals in the kitchen of your self-contained cottage. The general store has some basic necessities. Otherwise, the Tannin restaurant is your only option, if you made a reservation to give them enough time to truck in their kitchen supplies. During our stay in February of 2020, we ordered mushroom risotto served with buttered pine nuts and shaved Parmesan cheese ($30). The taste of the Parmesan cheese dominated the delicate taste of the risotto, but the risotto itself was well prepared. The stewed lamb shank, served on a bed of cauliflower purée, potato fondant and vegetables with mint butter ($35), had enough time in the pan to make the meat nice and tender. Good taste and flavour. The pan-fried Atlantic salmon, from the salmon farms in Strahan’s Macquarie Harbour, was served on a bed of sweet paprika, rustic gnocchi and with dill hollandaise sauce ($32). This big chunk of salmon was fresh and tasted delicious. Truly a delicious Atlantic salmon near the Pacific/Indian Ocean. Sticky date pudding, served with butterscotch sauce, strawberries and ice cream ($15) was fortunately not so sticky. White Choc Panna Cotta Cup served with biscuit crumb, berry coulis, fresh berries and lemon balm (€15) tasted also fine. The menu was well explained and the service was attentive. No wrong attitude towards a captive audience without an alternative. The food was well prepared, large in portions, nicely presented and tasted well. Clearly a level above the Australian pub grub. Good work from the chef in his secluded kitchen. The service was good.

Great food in remote restaurant. My husband had the Smoked Salmon and Mushroom Risotto and I ordered the Fish of the Day, which was Pink Ling with fries and salad. The meals were delicious and the portions were generous. The wait staff were very friendly and created a warm welcoming atmosphere. The decor reflected the history of the area which gave an authentic feel. Booking was essential and the service was prompt. There was a bar area adjoining the restaurant and a small gift shop next to reception.

Unfortunately we didn't eat here. The menu looks fantastic and priced well. We did enjoy a couple ales on the nice verandah, people watching and overlooking the pieman river. We also grabbed a take-away beer to enjoy with our picnic overlooking the river. We plan to come back and stay for a couple of days at the village and enjoy more of what this amazing place has to offer.

Had the falafel wrap with chips. Very tasty and hearty portion. The chef came out front and told me that all the ingredients (including the tahini) were Israeli. Some interesting old photos and signs in and around the interior of the gaffe, as well as the usual overpriced tat in a small souvenir shop space corner. Outside left, there is a great info panel on walks and kayak routes to do in the area, as well as some chained-up factor 50, free sun cream. Food is only served 12-2pm and 6-8pm. Bit weird coming from Europe, but seems to be the quite common in rural Australia. Recommend the nice outward facing seats on...
