Situated near the entrance to Freycinet National Park, the Pondering Frog Café offers a delightful dining experience that combines a playful frog-themed ambiance with a diverse menu, including notable Asian fusion dishes. With flavors rating a commendable 9 out of 10, and the added charm of stunning sunset views, this establishment is a must-visit for both locals and travelers.

The menu at Pondering Frog is extensive, catering to a variety of palates. One standout dish is the Mongolian Beef with Rice, featuring tender slices of beef stir-fried with seasonal vegetables in a rich Mongolian sauce, served over steamed rice. The balance of savory and sweet flavors, combined with the freshness of the vegetables, makes this dish a favorite among patrons.

Another popular choice is the Honey Chicken with Rice. This dish presents crispy battered chicken pieces coated in a luscious honey sauce, sprinkled with sesame seeds, and accompanied by steamed rice. The harmonious blend of textures and the delightful sweetness of the honey sauce create a comforting and satisfying meal.

For seafood enthusiasts, the Salt & Pepper Calamari is a must-try. Crispy fried calamari seasoned with a perfect blend of salt and pepper, served alongside golden chips and a fresh salad, offers a delightful contrast of flavors.

Beyond its culinary offerings, Pondering Frog captivates guests with its unique frog-themed decor. Both indoor and outdoor seating areas are adorned with an extensive collection of frog memorabilia, creating a whimsical and inviting atmosphere. The outdoor area, in particular, provides a serene setting to enjoy a meal while watching the sunset over the picturesque landscape.

Travelling though today hubby pulled in here, I was happy to have sandwiches in the van but the food sign caught his eyes. I eye rolled a bit and I must admit when we walked in I decided it wasn’t where I want to spend a lot of $. Within minutes the host Lester had greeted us, seated us and individually ‘sorted is out’. What I mean by this is, the kids were quietly bickering, I was over them but trying not to make a thing of it and hubby was over me and them plus he had just driven some windey roads in bad wind with the van on so he really needed a break. I don’t know how he did it but Lester identified all 4 of us had these little individual issues and without us realising in the moment just a few friendly words a smile had us all seated at the table happy again and ready for one of the best cafe lunches we have had in Tassy. Lester you are a magician, the BLT, the wine the coffee the ice cream.. yum yum yum the subtle individual attitude adjustment ... WoW ... I need some pointers you are amazing! A shame we couldn’t stay and use to free camp, it looked like a great set up. We will be back and we will tell...

Dining Experience @ The Pondering Frog. . Named for its iconic statue and its large collection of frog related memorabilia. . The Black Bean Sauce Beef (AUD $22) is delicious, featuring tender sliced beef flank stir-fried with crisp red onions, tender broccoli, tender carrot, and soft zucchini, in a thick black bean gravy, bursting with smoky meaty savoury salty vegetal earthy sweet flavour. . The Honey Chicken (AUD $22) is tasty, amongst the best renditions I've had. Features crispy tender battered chicken fillets stir-fried with honey in a sweet and sour gravy, sticky and sweet savoury sour honeyed in flavour. . Both dishes are served over fluffy steamed white rice with grainy sweet flavour, nicely addictive. . The young-at-heart all love the Ice Cream Peanut Butter Chocolate Top (AUD $7), featuring creamy smooth peanut butter ice cream with nutty floral sweet flavour, coated in a crunchy firm chocolate shell with chocolatey milky sweet flavour. Among their more popular ice cream options here, this was a delightful dessert to round...

This would have to be one of my favourite stops on the East Coast of Tasmania. I first came across these wonderful people in 2014 when they had there small but delicious Ice-cream shop operating, this being our 3 rd or 4th time passing though and Wow,... how things have changed it seems many others have experienced the wonderful warm service an amazing food that I once did and as a result they have expanded to a more then double their originally size . My partner and I simply cannot drive passed without grabbing an ice-cream or thick shake or some hot food . There ice-cream is made on site and there is a few great flavours to choose from . They have also added a great kids playground for the little ones and a big indoor eating space . There is a really cool live bee hive to observe in dining area where bees enter via wall into a clear pipe and make there way into Perspex honey box it’s a great display for the kids and adults there is also a book on bees there to read also .
