Hate to have to add an edit, but recently the Elizabethtown location has started not giving 2 scoops of ice cream for a large. It’s a bit odd. The Hobart location doesn’t have this issue, nor does the ulverstone beach hut. If this location has decided to just stop giving two scoops (why?) they should change the signage and what a “large,” is listed as. It’s really a bit disconcerting and odd ordering a larger size than someone else and getting the literal exact same thing, but charged more. It’s really something they need to work out. It seems to be dependent upon who’s working that day/time, as well. They seem to be having some seriously bad staffing issues, and it’s certainly putting me off returning as regularly as I normally would. About half the staff now doesn’t speak English and it’s almost impossible to place even simple orders. It’s really sad to see the service slipping so much and see a place I’ve visited for years become a place I’m not looking forward to visiting anymore.

Having said all that, it’s still arguably some of the best ice cream on earth. So amazing ice cream, but just awful service these days. Definitely worth a stop, but I honestly prefer the Hobart location or any other shops selling van diemens ice cream these days just because it doesn’t feel like they’re trying to short you, and no matter who waits on you at other locations, you can easily...

Nothing has made me scream for ice cream more than the offerings at Van Diemens Land Creamery. While I didn't get the opportunity to visit their flagship branch, I was able to try out their lemon curd ice cream and blood orange sorbet. Looking back, it would've been my biggest regret if I didn't get to taste such a national treasure.

When Van Diemens Land concocted the blood orange sorbet, they hit the nail on the head with the unmistakable tartness of the blood orange. It's expertly contrasted with the right amount of subtle sweetness that tingles your taste buds just like biting into a blood orange. The silky smooth composition of the sorbet freshens the breath with a tropical breeze, perfect for the Tassy summer.

Instead of viewing the lemon as an overpowering acidity or a sugary tang, there is a calculated tinge of both that crafts the grandeur of the lemon curd ice cream. With bits of lemon zest mixed in, the ice cream is well blended, ensuring that you'll get the same delectable texture and flavour every time. You don't need to worry about the ice cream melting in your hand as it'll be dissolving in your mouth in seconds. How immaculate and milky this ice cream is will continue to live on in my dreams.

Without a doubt, Van Diemens Land is the best Australian ice...

We visited VDL today for lunch. I called and booked a table on Sunday (for the following Thursday) and the person in the phone was more than accommodating. When we arrived, I went to the counter and spoke to a young blonde lady and said we have a booking for 6 people at 12. She looked in the book and seemed confused. It clearly wasn’t in the book, nor was a table reserved. She mentioned this to another young dark haired lady, who was less than impressed and couldn’t have cared less. She walked off to the particular table, didn’t say ‘this way’ or anything. Basically, she was pissed off. She didn’t utter a word to me or to the other people with me. She came back, wiped down the table. The other young lady did bring over a high chair, which I had asked for (also when I booked on Sunday). I could not get over how rude both staff members were, when it really wasn’t an issue as they had ample tables available. The young guy that delivered our meals was reg pleasant, friendly and asked if we needed side plates our pizza etc, and he did all this with a smile. The food was also good, but the unpleasantness of the two female staff members made everyone feel uncomfortable and...

Wow, what an amazing cafe, resteraunt and place. Visited on a cold and bleak Tasmanian winter's day. They had a log fire crackling away, warming the area and even on a wet, cold day there were a lot of people stopping by for coffee, food, and even ice creams. From the look of the amazing ice creams coming out to be served, I can see why they are popular even on a wet winter's day in Tasmania. Do not drive past and make the mistake I did by thinking this is only about ulice creams. Make an effort to stop because the food is outstanding value and equally outstanding flavour. On top of that, the coffee is excellent. Well worth stopping and much better value and atmosphere than the Cafe down the road, well worth the stop.

The icecream was great, service was a little tired, but it was late in the day on a busy holiday day, so I think we can excuse it. The atmosphere was icecream shop, imagine it would be nice the days they have music etc. Did I mention the icecream, which we had had from other spots on the island, was great. Generous serves and a myriad of flavours mad either hard to choose, but there is always next time, and the will100% be a next time. Recommended, the only problem is they are straight across the road from the raspberry farm that makes awesome raspberry sorbet and ice-cream, so I just had to have both as it was our last day on the island.
