Merritts Mountain House — Restaurant in Thredbo

Merritts Gondola Wow a real hit, so comfortable to be out of the elements and warm. The 8 person gondola with external ski rack was installed in 2020 and replaces the classic 2-seater chair lift that takes you from Thredbo Village Terminal to Merritts. Well done Thredbo.

Merritts Mountain House Restaurant & Bar The 2021 season opening at Merritts was different with COVID Marshals supervising the venue. I congratulated them on the day, for a great job of controlling entry and assigning tables, really well done guys. It was a longish wait to get in, but totally understandable, it’s usually a long wait during any season to get a table, this time it was orderly. Minestrone soup & Gluehwein filled the spot, not to mention hot chocolate. Then back out for more skiing.

I have dined here for the past few years. I think the food has improved during my visit in July 2023. They have a good selection of hot foods such as chicken wings, fries, burgers, sausage rolls, pies and nachos. They also have a range of cold options such as salads, wraps, ice creams, soft drinks and fruit cups. There is also a bar here for alcoholic beverages. I had the nachos and fries which were both reasonably priced and were tasty and filling. It can be quite busy during peak lunch hours. There is indoor and outdoor seating available. The food was great and so was the hot chocolate. However, they were not very COVID safe. They would remind some people to stay 1.5 but then there was a bunch of people who didn’t now each other (they sat at different tables and skied off at different times) all within 50 cm of each other. The other thing is that the little cafe closes at a different time to the bar. But they don’t advertise it. So we were going to get HC but we couldn’t at the end of the day.
