Me and a group of friends went to the Bonnie Doon pub as a final stop at the end of a camping trip just as they opened at Sunday noon. We were so excited to try this place as there are many good reviews and anything with 'Bonny Doon' in the name reminds me of 'The Castle' which is a plus.

Yet once our experience began I was so deeply dissapointed. The service and management was bad, with a poorly managed bar, disinterested staff and a long line for food despite there being two tills (both open and operational, as one was reserved solely for drinks despite there being absolutely no demand as nobody had gotten food yet). Also the cashier neglected to inform us of costs and additional charges upon payment.

It was a very hot day and we asked if our pre-booked party of 5 could move from our designated table to one of the MANY shaded tables, though this was apparently a managerial matter that would require us to wait through the 15 minute order wait line to speak to the overworked manager.

The food was mediocre, especially for being on the expensive side The Parma was especially dissapointing, being comprised of precrumbed chicken seemingly topped with an entire jar of tomato paste, with a side of undercooked roast vegetables.

The kids meals were tiny and will leave most children older than 5 or 6 hungry, and asking for a salad on the side rather than chips will result in receiving both sides with an unncommunicated $4 charge.

Overall I would not reccomend this pub to anyone who isn't ready to spend money without regards to the quality of food or service. If you need a quick feed and money isn't an issue, provided you come on a slow day you might get what you're looking for, but otherwise —...

Nestled among rolling hills and winding country lanes, The Bonnie Doon Hotel offers the kind of Sunday roast that feels both indulgent and heartwarming. Arriving just after noon, I was immediately charmed by the rustic beams, roaring fireplace, and the gentle hum of other contented diners—a sign, perhaps, that we were in for a treat.

The menu keeps things simple and traditional, with the stars of the show being the roast pork and roast lamb. I opted for the pork, while my companion chose the lamb, giving us a perfect opportunity to compare. The pork arrived with golden, brittle crackling that shattered beautifully under the fork, revealing succulent meat beneath. Each bite was rich yet balanced, and paired wonderfully with a tart apple sauce. The lamb was equally memorable—tender, rosy slices, infused with rosemary and garlic, served alongside a silky red wine gravy that elevated the dish without overpowering it.

Of course, no Sunday roast is complete without the trimmings, and The Boonie Doon Hotel does not disappoint. Crispy roast potatoes with fluffy centers, seasonal vegetables cooked just enough to keep their bite, and a generous ladle of gravy brought the plates together in harmony.

Service was unhurried but attentive, the staff moving gracefully between tables, always ready with a smile or a recommendation for a local ale. Prices felt fair given the quality and portion sizes, making this a meal worth lingering over.

For anyone craving tradition done exceptionally well, The Boonie Doon Hotel delivers a Sunday lunch that lingers in memory long after the plates are cleared.Excellent...

Fantastic Day at the Bonnie Doon Hotel Motel – Highly Recommend!

I recently visited the Bonnie Doon Hotel Motel and had an absolutely wonderful experience from start to finish. The facilities were clean, comfortable, and well-maintained, with all the amenities needed for a relaxing visit. Great pub with a great atmosphere.

The staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming, going out of their way to ensure we had everything we needed. The on-site restaurant served delicious meals —great pub classics with generous portions and tasty local flavors. The atmosphere was warm and relaxed, making it the perfect place to unwind after a day of riding on the Great Victorian Rail Trail. I just wanted to mention that the guy behind the bar was generous and courteous to fill my water bottle with cold water for the bike ride to back Mansfield.

Location-wise, it’s convenient and scenic, with easy access to local attractions while still feeling peaceful. Whether you're passing through or planning a long stay, the Bonnie Doon Hotel Motel delivers excellent service, comfort, and value.

I’ll definitely be back— 10/10 experience! Highly recommend to anyone...

After alpine mountain visit, we will always stop by Bonnie Doon restaurant/pub. (We didn't stay at the hotel/motel) They have a really nice country pub atmosphere, fireplace, etc. They also have outdoor dining area for warmer months. The food is excellent and service is nice and friendly. Potato soup with Garlic Bread is one of their best dishes, especially in winter months. If you are coming back from snow mountains like Mt Buller, this is a really nice stop-over before heading towards Melbourne.

Went here for a feed after going to Mt Buller. The venue was really nice and the service was great. I got the Parma and the Buffalo Chicken bites. The bites were insanely good, so juicy and full of flavour. The Parma was a bit lack luster though. It was quite small and a bit dry, didn't have a huge amount of flavour. The chips were amazing though and the side salad was alright. I'd give the Parma a 6/10 but the Buffalo bites a 9/10
