Yesterday I was driving past Bridgewater bakery and as i had not eaten I thought I would grab a quick bite.

Now we all know the food is pretty good at the Bridgewater bakery...

I enter the shop and grab a drink and spot some made up sandwiches in the fridge.

I ask about them and got informed they had focaccias and they also had bacon and egg sandwiches that could be toasted. I do love a good bacon and egg toastie so naturally this grabbed my attention.

I order the sandwich, old mate heated it up for me and then wrapped it up and off I went out to my car.

Upon opening the sandwich I was bitterly disappointed.

The bread looked dryer then a christmas tree in March. But being the upbeat positive kind of a bloke that I am, I thought never mind, just open it up and eat the bacon and egg inside. No point letting a bit of dry bread upset your day.

Well when I opened it up I was greeted with 2 rashes of bacon and an egg.

The bacon was burnt on one end and undercooked at the other end and the egg resembled what I can only describe as a cadavers thumb.

The bacon and egg were grey and soggy but hard at the same time.

There was no butter ( That's right butter) no sauce, no salt or pepper just 2 bits of bacon and the cadaver egg jammed between two pieces of bread that were harder then a cats head.

I hope this was just a bad day and I hope that I am pleasantly surprised the next...

Went in today and was second in line to be served. There were 6 staff working. One serving. One making coffee. One making sandwiches. One cleaning the glass inside the counter. One floating around near the front holding an empty rubbish bag and speaking to the sandwich maker. Person 6 was a lady with long hair who just wanted to tell the younger girls off about not washing trays before they went in the dishwasher and then told them if they don't like it they can speak to the owner. Then she went away and didn't serve anyone. The one that had the empty rubbish bag then started serving me. But by then behind me there were 6 customers. The only staff at the front by then were the original one serving, one serving me and one making sandwiches. The other 3 had gone away. Wouldn't you think that with 7 customers in the line more would serve? Otherwise the three left at the front seemed happy and friendly. I'd assume that serving is more important then cleaning the glass cabinets or telling girls off about trays not going in the dishwasher. The doughnuts we bought...

Service is appalling at those Bakery. Rude, rushed and abrupt. This morning staff argued with the lady served me that her tap payment hadn’t gone through, and she said it had and money had left her account.

They then said the same to me, even though it said “approved” on the eftpos machine. The lady serving said “we can’t help IT issues and we guarentee you haven’t paid us”. I took her word for it, and paid a 2nd time. When I left the shop I checked my statement, and sure enough, I had paid twice. I went back into the bakery and showed the lady my statement as that I’d paid twice. She said “if that’s right one of the payments will probably bounce back into your account”.

As expected there was no “bounce back”. In effect, me, the lady served before me, and most likely others, have all paid for our purchases twice.

Coffee and food is excellent, but service and attitude from staff is appalling. Brace yourself if you decide...

The roast lamb and gravy pies are to die for! Thinly sliced pieces of roast lamb smothered in delicious gravy with crusty pastry. Absolutely delicious. The vanilla slice is also amazing. Creamy smooth coffees & friendly service. One of our favourite bakeries on Earth. If you are going anywhere that requires you to go through Bridgewater, I highly recommend making it your stop for morning tea, lunch, or just a snack or a coffee. 😊

The Bridgewater Bakery won the award for the best Vanilla Slice in Victoria. Ok I have just travelled 250 kilometres to test the truth of the claim. The result, yes they are something to enjoy. Nice fluffy custard, waver bottom nice and crunch but for the sweet tooth individuals the icing is a killer. If your going through you would definitely want to get one. Sadly the coffee needs improvement.

They make the big call of best vanilla slice in Australia. We were sceptical at first, but it's true! They were absolutely delicious. Fresh biscuit base, great custard and just the right amount of sweetness. We went back for a second one. The pies and other baked goods were tasty too, although they'd run out of the ones we wanted. It's very popular and there was a long line.
