We went out for dinner one night of our 5 in Ballarat so really hoped we'd make a good choice. Cake yards inn did not disappoint. The staff and other patrons were friendly. A lot looked like regulars which is always a good sign. The waitress was lovely. We had 2 different pizzas, garlic bread and a buyer chicken. All the serves were HUGE but we were offered the option to have our leftovers packed in takeaway containers, which we accepted. The meatlovers pizza was absolutely loaded with meat. They happily obliged leaving the toppings my kids didn't like off even though this meant my 6yo only has ham and cheese🤦‍♀️. The garlic bread was AMAZING. I had the butter chicken which again was a very generous serve complete with flat bread and poppadum. Rice was perfect. Chicken delicious and melt in the mouth. Dessert was Icecream and chocolate mousse. But completely devoured. If we were in ballarat again, we'd...

Visited this great old pub on Valentine's Day as I have always been intrigued by the beautiful building. Our meals were sensational. My partner ordered the salmon on a bed of mashed potato - this meal looked and tasted amazing. Like something from a very up-market eatery. Brilliant. I had one of the many parma options and it was delicious and of very generous proportions. Their menu is unbelievably extensive and the chef is clearly very, very good. Thank you! What let it down for me was the lack of interest or service from the male bar staff. Were hosting some kind of event in the back room and made me and my partner feel like a distraction. The female on the floor was run off her feet servicing food delivery drivers and takeaway pick ups. Maybe hit by staff shortages, but based on the food, this place should be flat out...

Terrible experience! There was a ticket placed OVER the original sparkling wine ticket indicating to me on face value that the bottle of wine was $21.99. When the attendant told me the price was $32.00, I took him to the ticket and showed him that it was CLEARLY over the original ticket, he simply MOVED the ticket and told me that the bottle is still $32. I told him that the ticket told me $21.99 and I couldn’t see the $32 price because someone had moved the ticket.

I had told him that he could sell the wine to me as $21.99 because a ticketing error had been made and he said he couldn't do anything.

DO NOT SHOP HERE! You will get swindled!!!

Won't be going...

I recently had my farewell party here with a group of around 15 people. Despite leaving a job with a terrible boss, this place made the evening unforgettable. We started with a few drinks before dinner, and the menu had great options that suited everyone's taste. The portions were generous, and my grilled salmon with salad was just right for a big guy like me. The service was outstanding, with all the staff going above and beyond to ensure we had a fantastic time. The karaoke was a highlight, thanks to the talented host. Highly recommend this place for a fun night out! --- How does that sound?

The food was good - pub style. Love onion rings and was so happy they had them! They were very busy, but it took me 6 tries to get a box for my leftovers and we asked for a cappuccino, but we were told they were "too busy". When I mentioned this as poor form, a woman was falling all over herself to make us one, but it was too late. We were walking out and dessert was finished. We went to Starbucks instead. The best thing about this place was the atmosphere! History and glamour of years gone by seemed to ooze out of the walls. I felt like I could have been transported back 200 years!
