Bland, forgettable and uninspired about sums up how I'd describe the Flying Horse.
My partner and I went there for dinner tonight, and we've never had a more forgettable experience going out for dinner nor have I ever had $80 worth of food that tasted so utterly bland after waiting so long to get it. To top it off, all but two of the workers I interacted with whilst there tonight appeared like they couldn't care less about being there.
We were greeted and seated by Sam (Finch) who was one of the only two people in the place that seemed to be genuinely putting in effort when it came to their job. A sad thing for such a large venue. Every other staff member in the venue appeared either disinterested in working there, or was having trouble putting two words together.
We went up to the Bar to order and behind the counter was someone who not only got our order wrong, but was quite possibly the most monotone person I've ever interacted with and appeared as if he was struggling to stay awake. We ordered, got our food and drinks and sat back down.
After waiting a staggering 52 minutes for our order outside of the peak ordering period on a Monday night, let alone that I was sitting facing the kitchen exit and there were large periods of time with no orders coming out of the kitchen so it wasn't even as if people in front of us were constantly getting their orders out to their tables, my partner and I each our Parmas. They got a regular one, I paid extra for and got a "Meatlovers" Parma that was missing 2 of the additional toppings the menu said it was supposed to have over the regular Parma. I frankly didn't care, it'd been long enough that I just wanted to eat it.
The Parma had zero taste to it despite having a sauce and multiple layers on top. I've had burnt toast that tasted better than the chips we had, and I've had better Veg from a frozen Microwavable Steamed bag straight out of the freezer. I was absolutely shocked that after waiting so long and thus-far having had such a dissatisfactory experience, we were served such bland food by a kitchen that appeared to be doing nothing at times. When we were done, a girl came and took our plates and cutlery away and was the only other staff member at the venue who appeared to be bubbly and have any amount of energy in them at all.
From what I've gathered in speaking with some staff that worked there (I had to be convinced this wasn't just an incident isolated to us), this is a pretty typical thing and is reflected in continual other 1-star reviews from people as of late. I hadn't been there since before COVID and before its renovation, but I'm left no reason to even consider going there in the future. Short of refunding the time we spent there tonight, I wouldn't take any other form of compensation for having gone there.
I'm convinced this venue is only kept afloat by patrons with a food palate so bland that they don't expect anything more than what they're getting.
The venue: Decent after the renovation. The staff: Should be giving customer service like they're grateful to have a job in such an economy. The kitchen/food: Must be run and made by someone with zero interest in what they're doing and as much an idea of what they're...
Read moreWhen we entered there was no book to si g n in, only a QR Card which thankfully my step children advised me hon its use or I wouldn't have been able to record our attendance at the venue. There was no one at the entrance to the restaurant/gaming areas to assist us or ensure customers signed in. We were invited to celebratory lunch for my husband's birthday. I would like to have seen more variety of entrees. For example i often order a half dozen oysters kilpatric when we go out for lunch or a prawn cocktail made with large prawns, not shrimp. My hubby and I are not big eaters so find an entrees for me and seniors meal for him is plenty at that time of day. Today unfortunately I had to order a seniors meal and give approximately half away. The main menu was relatively small but the meals were well cooked and presentation on the plate was pleasing to the eye. If you feel the cold request a table away from the windows as for some reason the air con on blows down cold air on the person sitting nearest the window. The venue is clean, and the staff are wearing masks. Diners are not permitted entry without one, however we did notice a few men particularly with masks on but only covering their mouths not their nose as well. Due to lack of entrees choice we won't be going back unless invited for a function/celebration. Staff were pleasant and meals came out together and we didn't have to wait...
Read moreWent to this venue yesterday for lunch absolutely appalling food! My daughters nuggets and chops were brought out, chips were old and cold. Husband got a parmigiana chips veg, the chicken had black bits throughout and was soggy. Chips were served old and cold. I had a Schnitzel with chips salad and gravy. Chicken was overly soggy i could bend it around like it was somersaulting it also had absolutely no flavour. Chips once again were like other dishes old and cold. Salad was okayish. The gravy was just a watery puddle on the plate and chicken. They were extremely hesitant to provide a refund and only provided for 1 meal.
Will not be returning ever again as im disgusted by the way it was handled. No offer for a refund or any sort of compensation for the other 2 meals. So ended up leaving. Save your money and go elsewhere we spent $80 and will definitely look at other...
