I struck GOLD at the Golden Nugget last Saturday night - believe you me!!
I have to start by saying how lucky the town of Maldon is. Porcupine Village â in my estimation, is set to become a national treasure. While seeming quaint at a casual glance, âthe Villageâ is a huge triumph for Maldon and the entire Mt. Alexander region, and their main restaurant âThe Golden Nuggetâ (I guess the name ties in with the mining village theme,) is GOLD!
This past Saturday I had a $35-45 steak that outshone the $100 one I (very embarrassingly,) had to send back at Rockpool the week before! Although Rockpool clearly wasnât on their A game on that night (and sadly werenât as good the time before,) but if I can come here and pay such modest prices for beautifully cooked, locally (and thoughtfully,) sourced ingredients that are prepared so well⊠You can see where Iâm going with this - why would I give my money to Crown Casino (sorry Neil Perry,) The steak I had at the Golden Nugget last Saturday was impeccable and cooked PERFECTLY. It was utterly, astonishingly tasty and downright GREAT VALUE! - I am now on a mission to try every dish on the menu (and possibly every wine pairing from their regional selections!) and selfishly, I just canât find better value for money, given the equality of produce, execution and dining experience. I havenât written a review for the Golden Nugget Restaurant before, as itâs my Brother Dougy and his awesome wife Debs whoâve been given custodianship of this enterprise and Iâve been able to watch the pair of them pour their hearts and spirit into bringing this world to life â the ABC show Gold Diggers was filmed there â itâs absolutely an amazing place to see firsthand, and I cannot wait to see Porcupine Village start to flood prosperity into the shire of Mount Alexander. As a regular visitor to Maldon, I talk with local businesses when I shop, asking them their thoughts about what Porcupine Village might bring. They all seem unanimous in their excitement â perhaps theyâve been eating at the Golden nugget! 5 Stars â canât...
Read moreWe spent Mothers Day here for the carvery lunch and walked away more than impressed. The table service was fantastic and the meal situation was explained perfectly. We had 2 kids with us and the option to have a basic kids meal for them was excellent. The lunch itself arrived in an extremely timely fashion and was expertly prepared by the chef. The meat was tender and juicy and the roast veggies were perfect. The crackle was exquisite and sought after by everyone. The live music was a nice touch and was kept to a level where conversation could still take place. Dessert options were great and even the kids enjoyed their own Dixie cup's. This place is a hidden gem just on the outskirts of Maldon. We can't wait to go back and walk through the old buildings and enjoy an evening meal and chat again to Frankie the...
Read moreWe had a wonderful experience at the Golden Nugget. At night, we walked in through a metal archway with vines and twinkling fairy lights into a restaurant that was modern, warm and inviting.
The service was attentive and friendly. Attention to detail was impeccable. And we ended up having three courses as the food was exceptional; great portion sizes, beautifully presented, quality ingredients and, most importantly, delicious!
We ended the evening walking back to our car under a crescent moon and bright stars shining down on us. A truly...
