I've been travelling between Syd & Melb for many many years to see family. Was so pleased when Oliver's first opened, have always bought myself a cup (or two!) of steamed green beans - my favourite travel treat.
So I feel qualified to say that the quality of these beans has deteriorated significantly.
Clearly Oliver's are purchasing cheaper beans than prior years. They are limp, not crunchy. Thin and small, some with rotten spots. Stalks left on (!!!) so the convenience of popping one in your mouth now requires a quick glance away from the road to ensure you don't get a scratchy stalk in your mouth. The bean cup is also half-filled with these soggy strings, when it used to be bursting with large, crisp, crunchy, juicy beans.
Beyond the beans - I've occasionally indulged in a muffin. They used to be huge and packed with ingredients. Now small and underwhelming.
It is so disappointing to see the healthy alternative cutting corners on our fresh options for the long journey. Green beans are not restrictively expensive and the price point should absolutely allow for higher quality. I was a dedicated fan and supporter of Oliver's, always rattling on about the beans. Unfortunately I can no longer do so.
Worth noting, I tried beans from multiple locations on my most recent trip - the bigger, more traversed stores were marginally better in the freshness of ingredients, but not enough to...
Read moreA tough one for me to give 2 stars. First time using any Oliver's. What I wanted to order was out unfortunately so I ordered something else Overall I didn't really like the food. I had some kind of wrap with sweet potato chips. The chips were so salty as to be inedible and the wrap was tasteless. I had chosen the option with a cola which was apparently a $3 upgrade which was not clear on the new signs. I mentioned this and the money was refunded. The two servers could not have been more friendly or helpful and really believed in the company. It was very expensive. Choices were limited at the time we were there but this is typical of road side stops in Australia. Fuel and for are more expensive...

But this is not fresh at all, and all the shortcuts have been taken to ensure a high profit margin I assume. Chia coconut cup: frozen berries, watery pudding with mostly made of coconut milk so I don’t understand why it was so expensive. Also Oliver’s needs do lesson on how to make healthy food taste good! It’s not hard to make an awesome chia pudding, but theirs was watery, bland and parts of the coconut products had solidified so you had to eat chunks of solid coconut fats which was enough to make me wanna blow chunks 🤢 Better off getting a hash brown from Maccas, even if it is unhealthy, at least...
