The Border Inn Hotel Apsley — Restaurant in Victoria

Best country pub in Oz. I don't have the time or space here to list all the superlatives to describe our groups stay in the Border Inn. We rode to Apsley from Mount Gambier to honour a good mate who passed recently. The hospitality from Shane, Cathy and staff made the trip more memorable than we could have imagined. We felt like family by the time we left. The atmosphere, ambience, service, accommodation and the sensational food were simply the best we have experienced, and, we have been known to visit a pub or two over the years 😉😉😁. A great selection of tap beers were icy cold and poured with a smile, the Steak Sandwich could honestly become a National icon and the service and hospitality is simply, second to none. To top off our trip, Shane and Cathy opened up at 8.30am Sunday to prepare coffee and a slap up full English breakfast to prepare us for the ride home. Before staying in Apsley we looked at the previous reviews. Thinking no place could be that good we decided to see for ourselves. We certainly were not disappointed. When we arrived at the Border Inn, Shane the owner met us outside whilst we pondered our camping spot. Immediately he made us feel welcome, showed us where we could park our van on the lush green grass with a view of the bush. The pub is immaculately kept after the refurb. Shanes wife Catherine was also very welcoming as were the other staff. The locals and other campers were friendly and very respectful. We decided to spend two nights there it was so good. The food was probably the best pub food we have had and the amenities very clean....

Great service. “Cog” thanks for your info on the hotel. The food was well priced and good serving size. Garlic and cheese bread a great start. Hb had the Lamb Rogan Josh and he was impressed. I had the salmon with chips and salad. The fish was a little dry- some tartare sauce or a lemon wedge would have been just that added extra. Dessert Sticky date pudding was lovely.
