What do you do on father's day? Well obey your wife and go out for lunch. And while I generally don't like mixing with people - just disappointing usually. I made an effort and put on some pants. Now I haven't been to the Vine Hotel for literally years. So long ago, I cannot remember for what occasion I ventured out to North Wangaratta. But, my poor recollection may be age and too many hit knocks. Accessed the menu online and so had a fair idea what I wanted. On arrival I was reminded how old the building was, bit of history display out the front. Not only being internally fed, but neurologically and educationally - result. Quickly sat at our table in what look likes a cross between a museum, my Nan's front room, an antique shop and the Addams family home. Bloody brilliant. Most eating facilities are so dull and the same. Downside of going out is having to mix with other human beings, but there was space to move around if required, band only once did I have to put up with someone else's phone conversation. I chose the parmie, as I was hungry, but also as a tool for reference, there's a baseline of what is acceptable. Ordering and payment done at the bar - quick simple and efficient. Which also is said of how quickly the food came out. Now, I may never say this again, but my wife chose better. She had the curry, which was a good number of spots above my grub. It's not that mine was bad, it was just the curry was much better. Good size serve and everything was hot and perfectly well cooked. I was a little disappointed in the base parm as it had no ham then sauce - maybe I've got it all wrong but I thought ham then sauce, then cheese. It's not a hanging offence, just a personal preference. But at least it wasn't the pink shredded rubbish. The chicken is not deep fried, or so it's advertised as, now that can be a plus or slip into the ho hum. The chicken was thick, moist and cooked perfectly. I felt the crumb was the let down, as the sauce (without a ham barrier) became soggy, seperating from the chicken. It didn't ruin the meal though, and cudis for the team for looking to make the meals stand out. There's a good selection of local beer (King Valley) and generic beers, with premix cocktails and wine if beer doesn't float your boat. So, in short, here's another place that you should give a go to. Honest food done well, in an individual environment. One of a few places that remind me of a good country pub of the country of my birth - Mongolia. Just jesting - England. Get in your car, on your horse, your bike, or thumb your way out to The Vine. If your disappointed, don't blame the...
Read moreVisiting Down From The Capital. After i had a few bad experiences @ Other pubs in Wangaratta ( THE PINCENT ) There was no better Pub to give me reassurance that they're not all bad like the VINE HOTEL NORTH WANGARATTA AAAAA+++++ From the moment we walked into the Historic Pub the greetings from all the staff were 2nd to None, The Beers were on point and then we progressed to the cocktails and ohhh my they were the beez knee's.... Unfortunately the majority of Chef's these day's do not know how to cook a steak but once again i was shocked in a good way. I ordered the Scotch Fillet ( Medium Rare ) Loaded with fresh prawns and a delicious creamy garlic sauce. I could not even if i wanted to fault anything from the food to the atmosphere to the drinks.
Best Pub ive ever been to hands down....... Definitely my new local while working down in Victoria.
Ohhhh and the Beer Garden has set the benchmark for what a beer garden should look like from quirky lil signs and ornaments to the wide range of seating areas, multiple outdoor bars & even the tree's..... Can not rate this place enough. It's setup to cater to young & old.
OHHHH AND DID I MENTION THIS USED TO BE ONE OF NED KELLY'S ( THE KELLY GANG'S ) Local hangouts so if it was good 4 old Ned its sure as .... good for everyone else lol.
Thank you VINE HOTEL Staff for restoring...
Read moreFirst the atmosphere was very nice and rustic with the bistro layed out with big tables next to an open fire place. The food was very nice one of three places in area that serves real chicken schnitzel not the cheap stuff from Woolworths. The garlic butter was very nice so were the chips could have done with more but that's ol. The meal was hot and came out about 10 to 15 minutes after I had ordered the the garlic cheese and chili bread was amazing compared to other places where you pay more. It was doublethe size of other places that serve the same thing. The chicken schnitzel was $22 and the bread was $8. service was very good, very fast the staff were great and friendly nice to have a chat with and were very helpful. The drinks were reasonable as well. The only down side was that the place is about 4 minutes out of town but other then that it was a very...
