Polenta chips were tasty but too salty. The 45-day dry aged scotch fillet steak was tough and overpriced with minimal vegetables. The pizza had a great crust but poor quality salami. Desserts were excellent. Friendly staff, but the décor is dated and the value for money is lacking. Needs significant improvement to match its price. Research the pubs and some of the other restaurants in town
⭐ Overall rating: 2.5 / 5 Food: ⭐⭐ Polenta chips were tasty but far too salty and not quite crispy enough. The 280g, 45-day dry aged scotch fillet was the biggest disappointment — tough, chewy, and absolutely not worth $48. For something aged that long, I expected much better. As for vegetables, just three baby carrots — halfway through, I ran out and was left eating steak on its own. Pubs down the road honestly serve a better steak. Pizza: ⭐⭐½ Great crust — nice bounce and texture — but the salami tasted like cardboard and dragged the whole dish down. If you used a better quality salami and hydrated your dough to 75–80%, you’d have an excellent pizza. Desserts: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Flawless. The best part of the meal by far. Service: ⭐⭐⭐½ Staff were friendly, polite, and attentive, though they didn’t mention the specials board or highlight any recommendations. A little more engagement could really lift the experience. Value: ⭐⭐ I paid around $120 for one person, and it definitely didn’t feel worth that much. Asking for a tip at the card terminal felt a bit pushy, especially for a venue that’s not fine dining. Atmosphere: ⭐⭐½ The décor feels dated and could really use a refresh. Visit some Melbourne restaurants — the next time you visit Lumanna’s in Essendon, for instance — Go to get inspired by modern, warm, and inviting designs. Other Restaurants. Final thoughts: This place has potential but needs improvement. Better-quality ingredients, fairer portions, and a more inviting setting would make a world of difference. For now, desserts are the saving grace.
One thing I would like to say is To the pizzaiolo if you go and roll up your mat on the floor, were you are working I suggest that you do it at the end of the night when no one’s in the restaurant and you’re not handling food because what I’ve witnessed Is you rolled up the mat and then went wiping down the bench and then started to spread out a pizza without washing your hands that my friend is not good? You are on show if you were in my restaurant, you would’ve been...
Read moreAs a former local, I’ve had the pleasure of dining at the Winery Kitchen several times when in Seymour visiting family and have never been disappointed. We had dinner there again on Saturday night. I ordered the macaroni and as soon as I took the first bite it took me straight back to Italy. The pasta was super al dente exactly like it should be. The ample chunks of tasty sausage, together with the delicious and perfectly rendered fatty pancetta lardons created a wonderful taste explosion with the sauce. I live in Melbourne, eat out a lot and am unashamedly the biggest Italian food snob. This dish was quite simply the best pasta I have eaten since I returned from an Italian holiday a year ago. My Dad and my partner had the ravioli special of the day which I tasted and oh my Lord - finally a raviolo with a filling that actually had flavour. Just divine! My sister had the Pappardelle which I also tasted. It was rich and creamy with just the right amount of porcini mushrooms and I didn’t even mind the thyme! This restaurant puts most of the ‘Italian’ restaurants in Melbourne to shame with their exemplary service and truly authentic pasta. Molto...
Read moreIt was a sunny day and perfect for drive. So it was off to the winery kitchen.
This restaurant is in a working vineyard and it is like stepping back into an Italian village. Their is a large indoor restaurant seating 160 people or an outdoor area where we sat under vine leaves on a sunny day. It doesn’t get much better than that lol.
We ordered the antipasto platter first, which was a selection of cold meats and home made marinated vegetables w smoked mozzarella, gnocchi fritto, and house made bread. What an awesome start! Everything was just delicious and so fresh.
The polenta chips w rosemary, Parmesan salad and aioli were well cooked and tasty.
Around the table people ordered pizzas, steak sandwiches, saffron tagliolini w razor prawns, calamari, white wine, garlic and ground onions. And 26 day aged porterhouse steak, w roasted Tuscan potatoes, green beans, caramelised onions and red wine jus.
I ordered the gnocchi w lamb ragu which was parcels of soft potato, and tasty stewed lamb in a tomato sauce. Yummo!
This place is perfect...
