Hands down the best pies I have ever had. Was $11.50 and we bought the last rabbit pies heading out (supposedly to ever be made). These are about 2 inches/5cm high and around 15cm diameter. The pastry is crisp and flakey, the fillings are chunky with good gravy. Simply couldn't ask for anything more other than being able to eat more than one at a time. I love the Amber Ale and Beef as my favourite, so hearty. The Chicken and Leak is great, and my wifes favourite was the Lamb and Rosemary. Anyone you choose will be amazing. Highly recommend stopping at the pub for some of their stout too.
UPDATE: Went pack when was up in Seymour. Worth the extra 20 minute drive. Had a Beef and Chilli (think American Chilli) and went back and treated myself to the Beef and Ale pie. Still the best pie. I was told by a person in Seymour that there is a "voted best in Vic pie" in Seymour, I tried one, then drove to Tooborac for a real treat. Worth the journey! Thanks...
Read moreBeen coming to the pub for the better part of 20 years and frequented the pie shop since it opened. on the positive side. You will honestly not find a better pie anywhere. They are amazing. On the negative i was absolutely blown away by being charged a 15% public holiday surcharge yesterday on Takeaways from the freezer.
When the pies started out at $9.50 we thought "look that's expensive but they are big and good quality"
when they sent to $11.50 it simply meant I had to get them much less.
But paying over $13 yesterday for a pie from the freezer. not heated up. no sauce. nothing else was just crazy.
It will mean i stop coming. im sure that means nothing to a business that is so successful it now owns 4 pubs and the more affluent passing traffic will still stop and pay the money regardless but for a standard family like ours it means we simply have to stop coming. $67 for 5 pies is just a...
Read moreWe bought a beef and ale pie and a sausage roll for my partner. The few bites I acquired from the sausage roll were absolutely delicious, proper pastry, flaky as it should be and the meat was clearly mince meat full of flavour and spices. Not dry absolutely fantastic. The meat pie was burnt on the top from one of the young girls who served us, not sure how this standard of pie wasnt thrown out as the top was inedible... I braced myself for another mediocre pie but to my shock it was one of the best pies I have ever eaten! The filling was loaded with chunks of tender, fall apart beef. There was a strong onion and umami flavour that made the filling extremely moreish. I could also taste the ale. It was absolutely hands down one of the best I'd tried. Will definitely be back for more but hopefully the server knows when to take...
