What should have been a special birthday celebration at The Amberton turned into a complete disappointment, thanks to the appalling attitude of the manager on duty.

We came as a group of 14 (8 young children and 6 adults). The children played outside in the designated play area with adults supervising, only coming in briefly to use the bathroom before the food (which was lovely) arrived. After eating, we returned outside with the children. Despite this, my husband was approached by the manager and told that because of “our children,” a table of 2 had decided to leave — and that we needed to keep our children seated. It was explained that one of the children is autistic and cannot always be expected to sit still, but this was met with a cold, dismissive “not my problem” attitude.

And then came the real insult. My husband and friend had arranged a surprise birthday cake. The manager was told it was a surprise, yet instead of waiting, she stormed outside, dumped the cake in front of me, and casually announced she would “get the rest of your party to come outside.” Surprise ruined. Moment ruined. Birthday ruined.

When I later explained how upsetting this was, I was met with silence, a dismissive shrug, and the most half-hearted “apology” possible: “Well, I’m sorry if you felt like that.” No accountability. No care. No respect.

We were a party of 14 spending a considerable amount of money — far more than the table of 2 the manager seemed so concerned about. Instead, we were made to feel like an inconvenience in a place that supposedly welcomes families, complete with a children’s play area.

🚫 If you value good service, respect, and a place to celebrate with your family, avoid The Amberton — or at the very least, avoid the dark-haired female manager on Friday nights. They’ve not only lost our custom, but they’ve...

🌅 The Amberton Beach Bar & Restaurant

Alkimos’ Coastal Gem If you’re chasing sunsets, surf vibes, and a menu that hits the spot, The Amberton Beach Bar & Restaurant delivers the full package. Nestled in Alkimos with panoramic ocean views, this spot isn’t just a restaurant—it’s a lifestyle upgrade.

🍔 Food That Speaks Local The menu is stacked with Aussie favorites and elevated pub classics. Highlights include: Melt Beef Cheeseburger – locally farmed and seriously juicy. Brisket Sandwich – smoky, tender, and perfect with a craft brew. Barramundi & Pepper Squid – fresh, flavorful, and plated with flair. Even the ice cream and sangria get rave reviews, making dessert and drinks more than just an afterthought.

🍻 Vibe Check: Relaxed Yet Refined The Amberton nails the beachside aesthetic—think breezy decor, bench seating with ocean views, and a cozy atmosphere that invites you to linger. Whether you’re on a date night or rolling in with the crew, it’s got that “stay-a-while” energy1.

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Family-Friendly & Crowd-Ready With seating for up to 300 guests, a play area for kids, and dog-friendly outdoor spaces, it’s built for everyone—from brunch squads to sunset seekers1.

💬 Service & Experience Staff are generally warm and attentive, though peak times can stretch the vibe. Pro tip: book ahead and aim for golden hour—nothing beats that view with a cold pint in hand.

⭐ Final Verdict The Amberton is more than a beach bar—it’s a community anchor with serious culinary chops. Come for the food, stay for the view, and leave with your camera roll full and your...

Avoid if you have allergies. Great location and lovely waitress who did her best in the circumstances. However, if you have allergies I wouldn’t recommend dining here. We listed allergies on booking as well as when ordering and not only did the bar staff ignore this and send a drink with an unnecessary garnish that I am allergic to, the kitchen also ignored the allergy list too. After double checking that they didn’t just remove the allergen from my plate and then confirming it definitely was a completely different meal I ended up having a major reaction. Our lovely waitress came over to check on me when she saw we were leaving abruptly to get my epipen. Her concern and tears were genuine and I appreciate her attitude towards the situation but she did everything she could to make sure the food was safe to eat (I really hope her tears weren’t because she was going to be in trouble as she does not deserve to be held responsible). When kitchen and bar do this and tell the front of house it’s safe when it’s not is cruel to their colleagues. I’m very lucky that I know my early signs of a reaction otherwise this could have been a very dangerous situation. Luckily I was able to deal with the reaction fast enough and seek help. Others may not be as lucky. Definitely need to have staff educated in allergies and cross contamination when cooking/serving. Allergies require a better level of care that the kitchen did not provide. Hopefully they will do better next time but I wouldn’t recommend dining if you have any allergies or dietary...

We dined here as a family for dinner. For dinner two of us had the steak sandwich which was a huge hit. One adult had the steak and another the cos and avocado salad with grilled prawns. The food came out in good timing. The only negative was the baby cos and avocado salad. The salad came out with no avocado or dressing. When questioned I was given a puree avocado like dressing on the side. The prawns were perfect but that really is all I can give for a positive for the salad. We did speak to the manager and was given apologies and a full refund for the salad. We had one child with us and she enjoyed the chicken nuggets and chips for her main. Her review for this was "Delicious!". Our desert was gorgeous and tasted amazing! Two adults had the dark chocolate fondant and although enjoyed would have liked additional chocolate sauce with this dish. One adult had the honey creme Brulee which was divine! Our cocktails were also really lovely and presented beautifully. One adult required gluten free options for food and was delighted to see that almost all menu items had this option. Overall great experience and will come here again!

Sad to make this bad review but they need to train the staff better. First, we ordered food and the adults were served before my baby. Second, I wanted to enjoy happy hour and ordered a spicy margarita. They charged me full price. It was a mistake and I forgave them because the person who served me was new. Second, the spicy margarita was so spicy that I couldn't take more than two sips. I asked to improve it (I am a person who enjoys spicy food, but this was terrible). When I asked to fix it, the problem began. They didn't want to fix my drink, they said it’s gonna be the same, they made faces at me. I asked to speak to the manager to explain my situation (Through all of this I was always respectful). In the end, one of the bartenders offered to make me a classic margarita, which was never classic! Without salt, without any of the classic margaritas. Finally, I didn't drink anything and left without enjoying it and wasting my money :(

We had an absolutely magic dinner at The Amberton. From the moment we arrived, the service was warm, attentive, and genuine, we felt looked after the entire evening. Not a single thing was missing. The ambience was just beautiful, calm, coastal, and inviting, with that soft beachside energy that makes you want to stay a little longer. I especially loved the alcohol-free mocktails, they were fresh, delicious, and felt just as special as a cocktail. We shared the bao buns to start (so flavourful!) and followed with a perfectly cooked steak dinner. Every bite was amazing. It was one of those nights that you don’t forget — great food, lovely people, and a setting that just feels right. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a relaxed, elevated dining experience by the sea. 🌊✨
