What should have been a special birthday celebration at The Amberton turned into a complete disappointment, thanks to the appalling attitude of the manager on duty.
We came as a group of 14 (8 young children and 6 adults). The children played outside in the designated play area with adults supervising, only coming in briefly to use the bathroom before the food (which was lovely) arrived. After eating, we returned outside with the children. Despite this, my husband was approached by the manager and told that because of âour children,â a table of 2 had decided to leave â and that we needed to keep our children seated. It was explained that one of the children is autistic and cannot always be expected to sit still, but this was met with a cold, dismissive ânot my problemâ attitude.
And then came the real insult. My husband and friend had arranged a surprise birthday cake. The manager was told it was a surprise, yet instead of waiting, she stormed outside, dumped the cake in front of me, and casually announced she would âget the rest of your party to come outside.â Surprise ruined. Moment ruined. Birthday ruined.
When I later explained how upsetting this was, I was met with silence, a dismissive shrug, and the most half-hearted âapologyâ possible: âWell, Iâm sorry if you felt like that.â No accountability. No care. No respect.
We were a party of 14 spending a considerable amount of money â far more than the table of 2 the manager seemed so concerned about. Instead, we were made to feel like an inconvenience in a place that supposedly welcomes families, complete with a childrenâs play area.
đŤ If you value good service, respect, and a place to celebrate with your family, avoid The Amberton â or at the very least, avoid the dark-haired female manager on Friday nights. Theyâve not only lost our custom, but theyâve...

Read moreAvoid if you have allergies. Great location and lovely waitress who did her best in the circumstances. However, if you have allergies I wouldnât recommend dining here. We listed allergies on booking as well as when ordering and not only did the bar staff ignore this and send a drink with an unnecessary garnish that I am allergic to, the kitchen also ignored the allergy list too. After double checking that they didnât just remove the allergen from my plate and then confirming it definitely was a completely different meal I ended up having a major reaction. Our lovely waitress came over to check on me when she saw we were leaving abruptly to get my epipen. Her concern and tears were genuine and I appreciate her attitude towards the situation but she did everything she could to make sure the food was safe to eat (I really hope her tears werenât because she was going to be in trouble as she does not deserve to be held responsible). When kitchen and bar do this and tell the front of house itâs safe when itâs not is cruel to their colleagues. Iâm very lucky that I know my early signs of a reaction otherwise this could have been a very dangerous situation. Luckily I was able to deal with the reaction fast enough and seek help. Others may not be as lucky. Definitely need to have staff educated in allergies and cross contamination when cooking/serving. Allergies require a better level of care that the kitchen did not provide. Hopefully they will do better next time but I wouldnât recommend dining if you have any allergies or dietary...
