Ate here two nights during a recent stay. No trouble getting a booking. Had the eye fillet first night and barramundi the second night. Both really very good. Eye fillet was cooked perfectly, tender and tasty. Barramundi similarly very very good, skin could have been crispier but achieving a fully crisp skin on a generous piece of Barra while not ruining the meal is exceptionally difficult, and I’d prefer the flesh not overcooked. Sides (twice cooked chats, chips, broccolini and asparagus) were uncomplicated and all were excellent. Deserts were generous and very pleasant.
Wine in such a remote location is always a challenge. Not heaps of depth on the list. The chenin blanc is easily the best white on the list, the cabernet teroldego is easily the best of the reds. Both reasonably priced. They’ve done bloody well in my view given where they’re located.
If you’re looking for really high end fine dining, this is not the place for you. As steakhouse/bistro fare it is very good and I wouldn’t hesitate coming back. For what it is the value for money is good.
One final point on the staff. Both nights we had great service. Attentive, polite, knew the menu and the wine list. A few under training evidently...
Read moreAs an ex-restaurateur I was most impressed with the exceptional quality of the food AND the service - and this is no small praise as I came as part of a bus load of 25 tourists! We enjoyed 2 excellent dinners, an amazing lunch and I wish we could have had breakfast again! I had the deliciously juicy Cajun Chicken on the first night with generous shared bowls of garden salad, beetroot, crispy ‘steak fries, My choice of a vegan breakfast burger had a grilled portobello mushroom which covered the entire brioche-bun! Lunch was perfectly pan fried barramundi with ‘steak fries’ and salad. And on the second night, dinner was a melt-in-the-mouth pork belly with a not-your-average crispy skin. Looking at other less favourable reviews, I must say we must have either struck it very lucky or there’s been a change of staff, both in the kitchen as well as on the floor. Thank you to the entire team and well...
Read moreNice atmosphere in a great location, But that’s about it…
The Kimberly garlic bread was nice bread, but there was basically no garlic at all. So that was okay but a little let down.
We got two steaks and they were only just a fraction thicker than minute steak, they were both really disappointing. They also got the sides wrong on one plate.
Chips were nice, sauces were okay.
Due to the meals being the quality we changed our mind and didn’t get the line cheesecake that sounded good.
The waitress who took payment was extremely polite and asked about our experience, and we were respectful while being honest, she noted the issues down and I believe she genuinely cared about it. She removed the garlic bread from the bill which we appreciate, and the reason why it’s 2 stars, and not 1.
The pizzas across at the bar are getting great feedback so...
