Had my doubts about this place based on some of the reviews but so glad we tried it. Firstly the cafe itself — bright, airy, a good selection of indoor and outdoor seating, clean interior, very clean general and accessible toilets (!), lots of room to move if you have walkers or prams Service — so friendly it hurts 😂 Nothing was too much trouble today. My dad has dietary needs and the staff were more than happy to make a breaky burger using bread that dad had brought from home. Food came out quickly. Food — limited a la carte menu and lots of cabinet options (including homemade sausage rolls and pies) and fresh bread for sale. Couldn’t fault the pancakes w bacon. Breaky burger was also very good. Freshly-baked cinnamon scroll with a poured glaze was insane! Coffee — gotta mark Wards down 1 star for today’s brew. Long macc topped up was quite milky, hardly any foam and a bit weak to taste. Maybe it was the beans I dunno but if Wards can get their coffee to a consistently excellent level, they’ll be a force to beat in a suburb that is littered with choice cafes
** Parking is a bit of a nightmare due to construction but we didn’t have to wait long to jag a spot today. Prob a bit more...
Read moreI’m vegetarian and was given a ham quiche after ordering the vegetarian quiche. I didn’t realise until half way through eating it and seeing the ham. I hate to give bad reviews online- and rarely if ever do so- but if I did that to another person I’d be falling over myself to make up for it, which wasn’t the manager’s reaction, and it feels like it is something that the business has under responded to.
It may be a small error for some, but it’s made me feel sick all afternoon. If it was a food allergy and that sort of error is made it may have killed someone. No matter what else this place has to offer I’m obliged to give a negative review about the level of complacency about the food they handle and subsequently the very little respect they have for people who are their customers. I wouldn’t go there if you have food allergies, religious diets or are vego/vegan.
Silver lining was that the woman making the coffees whom I first approached when I realised I’d been served meat was very empathetic about...
Read moreI'm not sure how I've missed this little gem for so long but grateful to have finally been introduced to it :) Have dined twice in a couple of weeks and not been disappointed! It's got a charming, unique feel inside the beautiful old hospital building with a quiet, leafy, relaxed alfresco area, lovely for anyone but especially for families thanks to the large grassed area adjoining it where kids can run around in sight while grown-ups sit down at the table. The staff were lovely - warm, helpful and attentive - and the one small issue that arose was re. a wine order, which we were happy to let go, but the server picked up on it anyway, and insisted on rectifying it straight away. Can say the food both times was delicious - highly recommend the chicken, crab pasta, steak, and garlic veg. - just make sure you don't leave without a French Baguette from their bakery... so good!! Looking forward to trying breakfast/brunch next...
