Whatever you do, don't turn up at 2.45pm with a group of 7 people.

The person behind the counter was the rudest I've ever encountered. We were told lunch was over (no surprise there, we didn't expect lunch at 2.45pm) , we'd need to order at the counter(said in a manner which suggested it was cruel and unusual punishment for our thoughtless arrival, but which kind of missed the mark due to it being common practice) and that no menus were available since we could have coffee and cake only... this caused great confusion in the eyes of the young members of our group who could clearly see the milkshake flavouring bottles (and not a small amount of hope that they may actually be allowed a coffee). None the less, we proceeded to sit outside near the tank, in the beautiful surrounds, with loads of fun stuff for the kids who ran off happily, to discuss what we would order. We then moved to the opposite side of the outside area away from the tank and its aggressive aroma.

When we went to the counter to order, the staff member was making 4 coffee's. Without looking up, she mumbled begrudgingly "I'll be with you in a minute" whilst she finished the first coffee and proceeded to clean the machine thoroughly. Realising only one person was taking and preparing orders, we had a quick discussion and decided to consult with the others as to wether we would make it to Benalla in time for an appointment. As we reached the external door, the staff member behind the counter shouted at us loudly and very angrily that she was on her own and doing her best! Fair point, she was, but we needed to be in town by 4pm. It is surprising to be shouted at in a restraunt by a staff member. Very unprofessional. It was such a shame that the person we dealt with was having such an awful time at work and taking it out on customers since the setting, building and...

I love supporting local businesses and live nearby (Wangaratta). Whilst driving by with my family on a random trip, I thought it was a great opportunity to see what was on offer for future reference but the reception was far from welcoming. A staff member appeared the instant we walked in with a look of disdain and asked ‘what are you doing here’?. I was gobsmacked by the abruptness and told my children that we’d have to go elsewhere. I was only there to make enquiries & it’s not as though they were shutting the door as clearly there were still people dining. We turned back home and dined at a very friendly bakery in Glenrowan but sadly the reception at Winton Wetlands is something I won’t forget.. even my children asked ‘why was that lady so rude’? Edit upon your reply: Thank you for your reply, though this feedback was intended for the general public (yet now the apology I didn’t require has somehow been twisted to appear as my fault). I have no personal grievance toward your business so simply learn, take it on the chin and move on. As for your requested offline communication, it’s probably best to air the dirty laundry where it sits. The “group” that caused you such upset was a single father and three young children under 12. As for you requiring a discussion for the “words” used, I clearly detailed what was said without any exaggeration or mincing of words. The dismissive response you provided could easily be interpreted as a gas lighting or narcissistic technique to dissolve a situation, rather than avoiding a...

Lunch there today, Dec 23rd. We are locals and have been there before, but only for afternoon tea. We decided to go there today with friends for a Christmas "catch up". I had the "Smoked Chicken" focaccia with basil pesto priced at $14.50. It was really difficult to cut suggesting the bread was far from fresh, so I had no choice but to eat it in my hands. The real problem here was the chicken which was what I call "manufactured chicken", which means chicken loaf or shredded chicken pressed into some form. I suspect this is produced in a factory in Melbourne using all parts of the chicken and bleached to make it look like breast meat! It feels like rubber in your mouth and has no taste, and certainly no hint of a smoked flavour. 2 out of 10 for my focaccia and I won't be back! It...

Lovely quaint cafe, with proceeds going back to conserving the area. I got takeaway almond latte here and enjoyed the little gift shop and information desk within the cafe. It has a natural kids playground near the outdoor seating area, a flying fox and lovely sculptures/art work nearby. We visited as a stop over but definitely worth spending a few hours walking/cycling through the wetlands and spot more birds. There's toilets within the cafe or one outside with picnic tables where we had our picnic.

The cafe was lovely. The scone was fresh, the fritters were great, the coffee was alright and there were a good selection of alternative milks. The staff were friendly and the toilets were extremely clean and well kept. The person at the information desk was a wealth of knowledge and quite happy to spend time talking us through what we could do in the area. Would highly recommend the observation deck for star gazing however take strong mozzie repellent with you or a mosquito net tent.

Nice relaxed place with a friendly staff. What surprised me is they offer free WiFi to the patrons and accept card payments, given the hub is in the (almost) middle of bush and water. The friendly staff guided us with places to dine in Wangaratta and Benalla for specific things we were looking. There's good artwork very close to the hub.
