Our fall holiday was to travel throughout northern Italy and we decided to scoot up to Austria for one night to enjoy some authentic wiener schnitzel. I found this very quaint gem of a hotel/ restaurant in Arnoldstein...close to the Italian border. Our friends who live in Vienna decided to join us and we were both there for one night. We each booked the superior double room with terrace and it was such a beautiful space ..... pristeen .....cheery and lots of space.... keep in mind room 26 and 27. It was just down the road ...100 yds from the main building which made it very quaint and quiet. We were surrounded by the mountains, the crisp clean air and the friendly atmosphere that Austria always provided. The innkeeper Karen was fabulous to talk to and I practiced my German with her. We were there on a Sunday and it turned out the special of the day was Goose..."ganzeltag" . Our warm lunch was fabulous and it was obvious that this was a very special place for all the locals....the restaurant was full and the wine and food was flowing.....a very happy atmosphere!!! The next morning we had an outstanding full breakfast served.....unbelievably delicious!!!! Hot food offered....Ham and eggs was one of the them and it is served in a skillet right off the stove and placed in front of you. The best freshly made rolls and bread, preserves, coldcuts, cheeses, cakes, cereals, yogurt, incredible capuccino, and tons more. I can not say enough about our 24 hours in Wallner.....before we left to return to Italy, For lunch I ordered the infamous Austrian potato salad which is slightly warmed and a beer on draft...... I left witha huge smile and promised myself to return to Austria....and for sure......spend at least one night at Wallner......Genusswirt mit Atmosphaere!!!!!!! Go thru booking.com to book your stay.......This is a great spot to stay for skiing as well with the shuttle service avaialbe to the...

Read moreWhat a wonderful place to eat (and stay)...I enjoyed an evening meal there in early June 2024...I was bike-packing the Alpe-Adria bike trail from Salzburg, Austria, to Grado, Italy. It had been raining profusely that day as well as much of the previous week. I was cold and soaked to the skin.
It was 6:00 p.m., getting dark, with no place to camp. I tried setting up my tent in a farmer’s field but everything was soaked and I probably would have developed hypothermia had I had stayed there.
I packed up everything and cycled to Hotel Wallnerwirt in nearby Arnoldstein, Austria, but they were all booked up. The kind female manager there contacted Claudia at the Ferienhaus Kramser B&B to see if they had a room. They had one room left...what a blessing!
At 7:00 p.m., Danilo drove down the mountain to pick up me and my bike. Thank you Danilo. While waiting for my ride, I had an excellent meal at the hotel of soup, crusty bread, and beer—all so delicious and warming after riding all day in the cold rain. Thanks very much Hotel Wallnerwirt! Peace &...
