If it weren’t for the issue of church bells ringing all night right next to the hotel - plus the disappointment of the hotel’s restaurant being closed when we were there - I’d rate this place 4/5. The rooms are comfortable with good large double beds and excellent bathrooms, although there’s the negative of the crazy recent architectural feature of a glass bathroom door, which obviously risks waking anyone else in the sleeping area if the light’s turned on at night. Other positives are easy parking, a good included buffet breakfast, and the Herrnhaus being a sweet old building which has charming traditional dining areas. This was a key reason we chose this hotel. In fact when I confirmed the booking, the reply suggested making a restaurant booking. But when I tried, the answer came back that the restaurant would be closed the evening we were staying - even though the restaurant is listed as one of the hotel’s attractions in its advertising. There was no warning that it would be closed as I made the booking. The small village doesn’t have many other dining options. ||But the real killer was the church bells next door, which rang on the hour and every quarter throughout the night. The hotel isn’t air-conditioned, so if you open the windows for fresh air, you can’t sleep for the noise. The only solution was to close the windows, which at least muffled the sound - but if the weather had been warmer, this solution would have been stifling. Unforgiveably I asked the hotel receptionist when checking in whether the bells would be ringing through the night and she said no they wouldn’t.||The local church should of course share in the blame for ruining the experience of visitors. Many churches in built-up areas don’t ring their bells between late evening and morning. Why can’t the one in Brixlegg...

Stayed one night following a coverage on german speaking Servus TV (it is a pitty that we did not know the property before that program). Called late one night, made the booking. Friendly and straight forward; no complicated email back and forth. Very trustworthy. Arrived and parked our car behind the place on their own parking lot. Large enough also for a long vehicle and free of charge. Were greeted by the owners upon check-in which is already a first courtesy and starts making you feel at home. Went up to our room; very modern and yet with the cosy alpine touch. Fabrics and materials all of highest quality. Especially the bed: a heavenly sleep was awaiting us. The highlight: dinner - the Groumet Menu. Beyond imagination - just gorgeous. A very well composed menu with local ingredients (herbs from the owner's garden!), attention to the detail and top notch beef from one of the worlds premium suppliers. The wines: a discovery - we went for the recommendation to have one glass per course. An enjoyable journey through the wine richness of Austria. Had a few last glasses at the bar. Breakfast: all you need and all in excellent quality once again. Eggs and bacon cooked to order - never had such well cooked breakfast bacon (very thin and crispy!). A dream to stay there and, it is indeed home away from home. Will come back with friends...

This historic hotel & restaurant is - from a pure visual point - an absolute treat; one truly feels transferred back in time. Since we only visited the restaurant however, the kitchen unfortunately can't keep up with is interior. Although the meals are very nicely displayed (as one can see in the pictures) - in matter of taste there is quite a bit left to be desired. For the meat dishes, this was salvageable with salt & pepper. The vegetarian/ vegan dishes however were - and it pains me to mention this - as bland as it gets! It seems these meals were created by pure thought & nobody bothered to eventually taste them - quite the disappointment unfortunately. We are uncertain if this is generally the case or the staff just had a bad day - but for a location that is quite pricey, one should & can expect better quality than what we've got. We truly hope, that this is an issue that will be addressed, because the restaurant can only benefit...

Very interesting restaurant because of the history (going back to 1400's) and obvious architectural features (see the photos). Perhaps, I chose a wrong entree (Wild boar duette), the food was not too impressive where the boar meat was not so tender and the sauce too strong, perhaps to hide the underlying "pork" aroma, which was still present (I am a bit sensitive to improperly cooked and thus pungent pork and fowl). I was grappling between 3 and 4 stars. I am going with 3 here for food while 4 would justify the ambience and history.

The restaurant is excellent! I was unsure of the meat options so I had the paprika soup & the spinach risotto. Both were delicious - for a restaurant with so much meat, it would be easy to skimp on the vegetarian options, but they don’t. My husband loved the veal. Our server was great - attentive & friendly, and her English was perfect, luckily for us.
