My husband and I stayed at Hotel Landgasthof Fischerwirt over the Christmas season in the hopes of a white Austrian Christmas, and all of our hopes and dreams about this holiday were completely fulfilled. We were lucky to arrive to a blanket of snow everywhere which had fallen the previous weekend so it was like a real winter wonderland everywhere. The hotel offer to collect guests from Salzburg airport and return the guests to Salzburg airport for €40 total (€20 each way) which is very convenient, - and this can be organised in advance by emailing the hotel. The hotel itself was absolutely beautiful, and like a real fairytale wonderland. We have never in all our travels seen a hotel that is so immaculately clean - the bedroom, bathroom, hallway, lobby, dining area, bar, stairways, lift, shower, everywhere! It is absolutely spotless and gleaming with shine everywhere. The decor and style of the hotel is beautiful - the perfect blend between traditional and modern. The little personalised touches in this hotel, combined with the warmth, friendliness and professionalism of the owners/hosts truly made our holiday experience the most memorable and special holiday we have ever had. It is crystal clear that the hosts' top priority is the guests' comfort and enjoyment, and they go out of their way to do whatever they can for you. Little touches we loved included our family name greeting card on our dining table, the bed being made a different way every day, daily greeting scrolls presented to the guest on the breakfast table in German and English with warm festive wishes and suggestions of local activities as well as schedules for the day which the guest is invited to participate in. The friendliness and warmth of the hosts added tremendous value to our holiday. The attention to detail in the hotel and in hospitality is second to none. There is a bus stop right outside the hotel, and we took a trip to Salzburg city (45 minutes away on a bus - €7.50 one way per person) and Salzburg city was magical and truly festive. We loved the Christmas markets and festive cheer with warm mulled wine and eggnogs in the freezing cold, it was magical! We also visited the Pandora shop in Salzburg to buy a beautiful charm. Christmas Eve celebrations were spectacular - the hotel hosts great guests with an invitation to join them at the local church (which was nested among the mountains and beautifully decorated, and also covered in snow) where we listened to beautiful locals singing and playing music and German Christmas stories. Afterward, as a group we went to another local hotel for a warm drink and then returned to our hotel for warm mulled wine outside with sheepskin lined chairs surrounding a beautiful fire and Christmas music - another magical experience. Christmas Eve dinner was exceptional - beautifully cooked and presented with very special traditions from the hotel including Christmas stories and even a gift for the guests from under the tree. We also enjoyed a beautiful leisurely 8km walk around the local lake (5 minute walk away from the hotel) which was again among the most spectacular views we have seen. These snow capped mountains are majestically beautiful and the lake is breathtaking. We took this walk at a leisured pace which took a few hours, and it was another one of our holiday highlights. We highly recommend the half board basis in the hotel (worked out €12 per person per day extra) which includes a delicious and exciting wide-range continental breakfast and a five course evening dinner. Breakfast includes various hams, salamis, cheeses, yoghurts, fresh fruits, deliciously fresh breads and rolls, a wide range of cereals along with hot selection including eggs and bacon. The evening dinner was beautifully presented and included a lovely mix of European dishes that we were both familiar and unfamiliar with (e.g. chicken, beef, deer, red cabbage soup etc) which added to the enjoyment and excitement of dinner time. Breakfast and dinner were both delicious!!! Overall, we had the most magical holiday in Austria and in Hotel Landgasthof Fischerwirt. We fell in love with the charm and splendour of this hotel and its hosts, their warmth and quality, their traditions and hospitality, the hotel itself, its location, surroundings and very friendly locals. We love everything about this hotel and our holiday in reality far exceeded even our most ambitious dreams about this holiday. We both had this holiday as a one-off Christmas holiday with a difference, and we both loved it so much that we are seriously considering making it our new annual...

Read moreThis is by far, one of the best hotels we have stayed in. This family run establishment is truly a phenomenal experience - it really felt like we were coming home. The team are immensely hospitable, with no task or request too big or too small. We needed a travel cot for our toddler and they set it up beautifully in a perfect room.
The food deserves its own review. Aside from running a wonderful hotel, the team manages to keep the food at an exceptionally high standard. It’s the small details - a different type of butter for your bread every night, local ingredients featured in traditional ways and a beautiful range of Austrian wines that paired beautifully with the food.
We were there over Easter, which was special in itself, but the team once again made it, extra special. Every person had a nest of goodies to find in the garden, which was followed by an ‘egg cracking’ game in the evening. It genuinely felt like a family dinner and everyone was invited!
The location of the hotel is also exceptional - there is a lake nearby with the most spectacular views of the mountains, and we loved running and walking around it. And if this all wasn’t enough for a perfect weekend, they also have a “Wald spa” which is beautifully positioned in the forest. There are a variety of saunas, relaxation zones and massages that can be booked. It is truly spectacular.
We highly recommend this hotel to anyone looking for the perfect weekend away and cannot...
