I was quite excited for Pfefferschiff. Wife and I saved it for out last day in Austria as an unforgettable posh dining experience to cap off our European vacation. We don't mind spending big bucks on a fancy meal, but besides the lovely location, it was not worth the money and even worst, the food just wasn't that tasty. Plus, the customer service from Iris was subpar when I told her how disappointed we were.
We got there for a 7:30 reservation and the patio was humming with activity. we were asked if we wanted to have a drink and small bite from the kitchen outside and then move to the dining room for dinner. Sounded great! Drink was fine and the small fried ravioli they brought had a good flavor but wasn't anything to rave about. When we were brought inside for dinner, the restaurant was completely empty at 8pm on a Wednesday night. First red flag. Lights were very bright, no music and completely alone in an empty dining room. We asked if everyone outside was coming in as well, and they said they were dining from the 'bistro menu' and would be staying outside..., that inside was the Michelin star restaurant. now i was wondering if i should have been doing the slightly more casual experience as well. . First course came out and it was a crudo. I love crudo, very hard to mess that up. flavors were just OK... there was shaved ice on it which seemed a bit funny.. but overall I just remember thinking.. i can't believe this is supposed to be fine dining.. I think if you looked at a la carte pricing, the two small portions of fish with some ice, radishes and oil was about 60 EUR.. we start getting the sinking feeling we're paying almost 400 EUR for a dinner that's going to be 'fancy' but not tasty. we decided to give it one more course in case the fish was a misfire. I got the liver and the wife got the fish dumpling with caviar. both of us noted that the course was ok, but just didn't make us excited in any way. Not even in the top 5 places we'd eaten while in EU. It should have been the best. Not inedible by any means, but not worth 90 EUR for a few bites each.. at that point I decided to cut my losses and leave. I asked to speak to the manager or owner and got Iris. I told her I was disappointed and did not want any more courses.. and her answer was just "ok".. and nothing more.. she then proceeded to bring me my check for 200 EUR.. that was what i paid for bread, once glass of champagne.. two tiny dumplings.. a few ounces of raw fish and the ok, but not very exciting second courses. If Iris wanted to save things, she could have apologized, encouraged us to stay.. comped or reduced the price of our check, even giving us the glass of champagne would have shown they cared about our poor experience, but instead it was here's the bill and "ok".. not even i'm sorry you didn't like it, can you give us some feedback. The night before we ate at Restaurant Riedenburg and loved it.. wished we had saved that for last instead. Save your money and eat...
Read moreLast night, I had the pleasure of dining at a magnificent fine dining restaurant in Salzburg. Housed in a beautifully converted old building, the restaurant boasted a stunning interior decor. The food was nothing short of remarkable, combining Asian spices and western ingredients with innovative twists to create a truly unique culinary experience. Our dinner comprised of five courses, each expertly paired with different wines. This Michelin star rated establishment offered an extensive selection of local wines to complement each dish.
Among the many highlights of the meal, the standout dish was the duck liver coated with white chocolate and finished with a raspberry sauce. The flamed scallops with fennel were equally delightful, while the egg dish with caviar was a taste sensation that paired perfectly with a glass of white wine. The hamachi with smoked dashi sauce was particularly appetizing, leaving me wanting more.
However, the saddle of lamb fell short of my expectations, as the meat was slightly tough and chewy. Nevertheless, it was still an enjoyable dish overall. For dessert, a special lemon cake with ice cream was a wonderful way to end our dinner.
Throughout the evening, the wines we were served were exceptional and added to the overall experience. Tasting the Austrian wines was a memorable experience in itself. The service was excellent, and the staff made us feel welcomed and attended to throughout the meal.
In summary, it was a fantastic dining experience with great food, excellent wine, and exceptional service. I would highly recommend this establishment to anyone visiting Salzburg in search of a truly remarkable...

Was soll ich sagen?
