Mascha Wirt – Gasthaus Wilhelmer — Restaurant in Lesachtal

The restaurant looks very charming and romantic, but unfortunately, we did not have a good experience. The service was rude and unprofessional. We were a group of three and asked for a table; at first, we were ignored, then directed to a small, shared table which would have made a private conversation impossible. When we politely requested an individual table—several of which were still available—the situation quickly deteriorated. The visibly stressed staff reacted angrily and responded in an unwelcoming and disrespectful manner. We were not only shocked about the staff openly having their conflicts in front of the customers, but also about the fact that the staff expressed their negative emotions directly towards the customers. What really made us leave was the outrage of the male staff telling us "that it is unacceptable that the guests tell him where they want to sit". This completely inappropriate statement does not correspond to professional hospitality management standards or cultural norms in Austria or the EU. Ich sag euch: Der Mascha Wirt ist nicht nur ein Restaurant, es ist ein Erlebnis. Die Mitarbeiter hier? Absolut legendär. Sie haben diese altmodische Gastfreundschaft, denen es wirklich wichtig ist, dass man sich amüsiert. Als wären sie für die Dienstleistungsbranche geboren – und sie verstehen ihr Handwerk! Hattet ihr schon mal einen Aperol Spritz, der so gut war, dass ihr kurz überlegt habt, alles hinzuschmeißen und selbst Barkeeper zu werden? Ja, genau das passiert hier. Die Getränkekarte ist länger als eine Schlange für Freibier, und diese Barkeeper wissen, wie man sie zum Klingen bringt.

Aber reden wir über den Gin(Blue Gin von Reisetbauer). Oh, der Gin. Hier gibt es mehr Gin-Auswahl als Tinder-Profile, und jeder ist besser als der andere. Sie sollten den Laden rund um die Uhr geöffnet halten, damit ich mich durch die ganze Kollektion arbeiten kann. Ehrlich gesagt, ich könnte hier leben, und wenn ich keinen Job hätte, würde ich wahrscheinlich zurückkehren.

Und jetzt zum Essen. Heilige Scheiße. Ich starrte die Speisekarte an, als wäre es eine Abschlussprüfung. Konnte mich nicht entscheiden. Es sah alles einfach zu lecker aus. Am Ende entschied ich mich für das Wienerschnitzel. Und ich muss euch sagen, das war so zart, dass ich nicht wusste, ob ich es essen oder meinen Eltern zeigen sollte. Perfekt zubereitet, perfekt gewürzt und so groß wie ein kleines Land. Ich meine, das Ding war ein Monster. Fast hätte ich um eine Schweigeminute gebeten, bevor ich zugeschlagen habe.

Tatsächlich hat mir dieser Ort klar gemacht, dass wir mehr Veganer, Vegetarier und Menschen ohne Alkohol auf dieser Welt brauchen. Denn je mehr es von ihnen gibt, desto mehr Plätze sind in solchen Lokalen für uns alle frei. Also, ein Hoch auf alle Fleischesser und Nüchternen – macht weiter so, und ich halte euch im Maschawirt...

I’ve traveled to the area twice and have eaten here many times. The staff have always been welcoming and provided excellent service. During my most recent two-week stay, one dessert—with their homemade ice cream and lots of chocolate—quickly became my go-to treat. It was called the Choco Dream, courtesy of Fabio, who created it for me. It was absolutely delicious, and the staff were always kind and happy to accommodate.

I’ve also really enjoyed their main dishes, especially the spinach Knödel, Lesachtaler Schlipfkrapfen, and a variety of their soups. I highly recommend...
