Jägerwirt is for those who seek specialties like Game dishes like wildboar, wild hare, venison, pheasant | In fact we witnessed the unloading of several wild hares which had heen hunted in the afternoon. When comparing the food of Tuscany ( check last weeks review ) we noticed the wildboar we had with cranberries and breaded dumplings was quiet different than that ate in Tuscany. The meat in Austria lacked the colour which usually is dark. It looked like domestic pork to us. The texture was tough though and it lacked the usual taste of domestic pork. It was cooked in a cream sauce with black peppers, accompanied by half a pear - filled with cranberries. The dumplings were nicely made home cooking style. Prices were EURO 22.50 for the wildboar. What was good however was the SACHER Torte which featured a thick, authentic dark chocolate icing with the obligatory layers of Apricot jam in between. This cake could have been from the Original in Vienna. Coffee was served with Creme Chantilly or fresh whipped cream in line with Austrian noble tradition.
