The food here is truly great, and the service is warm and friendly too. After a day in Hallstatt fighting crowds at tourist trap establishments, we were pleasantly surprised to discover this lovely place just across the lake. There was plenty of parking with a beautiful stream nearby, and the restaurant was decently filled without being packed. The food was superb, fresh ingredients well seasoned, cooked and presented. Everything on the plate tasted great. We had boiled beef with vegetables and potatoes, and fish with homemade tagliatelle. The beef was fork tender with delicate flavours that were highlighted by the horse radish. The fish was also beautifully cooked, with a nice firm texture for the flesh and crispy skin. The tagliatelle was also finished to a perfect al dente. Dessert was sweet semolina dumplings with plum ragout and homemade elderflower flower ice cream. It wasn't too sweet and had the perfect balance of sour and sweet notes with a blend of hot and cold textures. Their menu apparently changes often to showcase the fresh produce of the season. Do note that the kitchen closes at 8:30pm, so do come early.

The best local cuisine around Halstatt lake. And one of the worst service. It is located under tall trees by the Koppenrast river with lovely shade even in mid-summer. You can’t make a bad choice from their menu. I personally prefer the salmon-trout - both starter with surprisingly good combination of passion fruit and ginger and grilled as a main course. Fried chicken - a favourite in mid and south Austria - is so soft with classic mixed (gemischte) salad. The tafelspitz aspik is full of flavour with pumpkin seeds oil and lentils. If tou feel explorative, then poppy seed icecream with pumkin seeds and pumkin oil is a way to go. And the modern wine list with a mix of Wachau/Kremstal (get Prager Riesling) and Burgenland (get Pinot Blanc from Nittnaus) whites is above anything in the area. Only the Wiener Schnitzel was quite oversalted. It is an understated place that will stay in your memories for a while.

This was a great find away from the touristy overpriced Hallstatt restaurants. It was suggested to us by our hotel receptionist. It had to go back and thank him the next day! Drinks are not cheap here, or anywhere in Austria. The food is priced well, but when you get this level of quality for your money, you pay with a smile. The food here is fantastic! We had a fish dish ($25) that came with the best asparagus risotto I’ve ever tasted, even in Italy. We also got a traditional beef dish with mashed potatoes that was fantastic and a schnitzel with cranberry sauce that was very well made. Desserts were not the highlight, in my opinion. Definitely the place to go when in Hallstatt.

Very rude service! We were denied a place in the premises, despite the fact that it was completely empty and the next reservation in it was to take place in over an hour. I informed the staff of the premises that we needed a table reservation for 6 people, including a woman in the 8th month of pregnancy and a small 2-year-old child. The service refused us a hospitality. (I would like to add that when I ordered a table, I undertook to leave the premises before the next reservation in an hour. Refusal translation of the service - "because we did not book before" is in conflict with the location of this place. In any other country, a tired traveler could count on rest After a few hours on the route in the mountains - the more a pregnant woman and her two-year-old child, if this is what Austrian hospitality looks like, it's...
