Hochwurzenhütte — Restaurant in Politische Expositur Gröbming

No doubt there are many mountain huts around Schladming region, but Hochwurzenhütte stands beyond most of them. It is perfectly located on the top of Hochwurzen peak, with stunning views over the amazing mountains and accessible with one of the most modern 10-seater cable lift in the region. You will just sit and enjoy the panorama view. We have been visiting this place for 7 years in a row - the hut is constantly renovated and upgraded. The place is clean, perfectly maintained and authentically designed according to the highest Austrian alpine standards. Food is superb, selection is good and prices moderate. Service is excellent and extremely efficient despite the amount of visitors they serve every single day. This is a typical family run business, where customer is treated in a best possible way. I lived in Bavaria for five years decades ago and visited Austria often. It was such a treat to be able to return and show Schladming, the Hochwurzen, and the tobogganing run, Rodelbahn, to my husband and young adult children (when we rode it later).

You MUST stop at the Hochwurzenhuette (restaurant)! It's walk-up service before you go out to sit on the patio to enjoy the spectacular view! The selection of authentic German and Austrian dishes is plentiful, and the prices are decent.

Bucketlist Highlight: a special treat you will not find everywhere in Europe is the famous Germknoedel dessert. (See photo of plate at empty seat). It is a large, sweet, yeast dough dumpling filled with a warm poppy seed filling surrounded by a delicious vanilla custard sauce.

The view is quite nice and there are a lot of places to sit at. But the service is the worst, first of all my friend asked for Almdudler and instead of giving him the Almdudler he asked for, she gave him sparkling applejuice.
