Waldschenke Ramsau — Restaurant in Politische Expositur Gröbming

Quite a disappointment. We visited this place a few times in the past, always appreciating the atmosphere, nice interior, truly warm Austrian hospitality provided by the staff, and nice food, though a bit more expensive. But given all the pros, the food price was more than adequate. Our last visit was quite different. There was a sign at the entrance stating that bank cards are not accepted and the kitchen closes at 20:00. That was the first sign of a difficult financial situation. The restaurant was half empty, which we had never experienced during our past visits. The biggest difference was the staff. In the past, the staff would have a short, warm conversation with us, welcoming us, having small talk with jokes, and recommending the meals. Now we were served by totally different people with no clue about real hospitality. It was just a technical conversation to take our order; the food was brought with no interest, no smile, no conversation - just put on the table. Clearly, the restaurant is trying to save some money on service too. And the food was pretty average. I visited this restaurant last year with my boyfriend and it was pleasant stay during our cross country trip. We had good meal and atmosphere was great. So i visited this place also this year. Alone, because my boyfriend was downhill skiing. I ordered schnitzel with potatoes. Both was so oily and potatoes were so salty. I didn't say negative comment to the waiter because I was there alone, in the foreign country and I don't speak german. So I didn't wanted to have some conflict in the foreign language. In the evening I vomited :-( Due to it I had to stay in bed during all another day. It's sad that this restaurant has good renome in whole Ramsau. Absolutely different place from what we were used to visit before. Staff wasn’t friendly, nor even helpful. Also we got refusal to sit outside even though there were some tables freeing up. Whole ordering process was disorganized, we were asked several times what we want after we made our order. Now you can pay only by cash, what is conveniently hidden on the last page of the menu. That’s why I just had a drinks only. All this summed up doesn’t make me want to come back there again, and it is a shame to see such a downturn of the place. Parking is still easy, and they still have tables both inside and outside of restaurant. I would recommend to save your time and visit some other good restaurant...
