Can't think why I haven't reviewed this place before! During our ski holidays, we have eaten here since the mid-nineties, and have stayed here a week at a time for about seven or eight years. Just to repeat what others have said - food typical Austrian, i.e. meat and loads of it, although there are a couple of veggie options; plenty of (Austrian) breakfast - ham, cheese, bread, spreads, tea, coffee, juice, eggs, fruit; the bathrooms have been / are being refurbished; rooms tidied and bathrooms cleaned every day. Very convenient for ski buses to Zauchensee, Flachau, Obertauern, and the local Radstadt lift; local bus to the thermal bath / sauna at Altenmarkt (for which you may borrow fresh towels); easy walk to the start of the cross-country skiing trail from Radstadt, or bus to the trails at Gnadenalm and Untertauern. Smack in the centre of town, convenient for other restaurants / bars, shops, post office, banks, Friday market. Ski hire shop 10 mins walk.||||Best point: Gitti the boss. She's a whirlwind, never stops; she and her husband Peter run a very tight business. She tells me she's giving up soon but when they take over, I doubt she'll leave her son and his family much leeway! (She speaks heavily accented Austrian, btw).||||Drawbacks: as mentioned elsewhere, the church bells, but I quite like them; one part of the restaurant is a smoking room, as is the entrance hallway; parking can be a problem during the day (free 6pm - 9am) but several car parks within easy walking distance. Not great for young kids but ok. Railway station down a steep hill. If you want loud, lively, youth-oriented apres-ski, don't stay in Radstadt (this for me is NOT...
Read moreI went to the restaurant Löcker. At first sight it is a very warm and calm venue with traditional decoration here and there and a lot or wood works making you feel at easy, home and it just fits the town and ski vacation you most likely are on, the location is somewhat central in general as well. Sadly I cannot give my visit more than 2/5 stars. The käsespatzle my girlfriend ordered which is the photo attached to this review was good, yet nothing special, but the waiter completely forgot my order and I got my food after and later than everyone else. And what I got was a disaster and sad looking mix of everything non-meat on a plate. I ordered their vollwertteller and first of all it looked like it was plated and decorated by a three year old, it was a mess, did not look appetizing at all and was just weird, which is sad because it is obvious they tried to plate it in a way to look nice… In the middle they had put a spoonfull of whipped cream(???) and they had drowned the plate with enough sauce to last a family for week. Lastly it just contained random bits and pieces with no side dish, salad or anything and I was still hungry after eating. It contained a spring roll, dumplings, croquettes as an example. Very weird over all, not very tasty, not much food, overpriced for what it was and the service of the worker was bad. I almost chuckled when I saw the dish I was served… Do...
Read moreJust returned from a four day ski trip to Austria, with our base at the Gastof Locker. The hotel is well placed on the main street with the Ski bus stop close by (although we did use hire cars). The ensuite room recently upgraded was very comfortable, with an excellent bathroom and one of the best showers I have ever used. There was lots of room to for all the clutter you need on your average ski trip.||Food was very good. Both breakfast and evening meal being substantial enough to replace all those calories you burn off during skiing. Please note that the majority of the menu for the evening meal is meat based, so the vegetarians may struggle, however I'm sure that the kitchen will have no problem accomodating your needs. The staff also deserve a special mention especially those working in the bar and restaurant, very helpful. ||Highly Recommended.||I cannot finish without mentioning the bells from the next door church, and the vigor with which the bell-ringer goes about his work, 6am every morning is just TO MUCH, more so when you need as much sleep you can get. So beware, it did spoil an otherwise...
