A stunning experience. The room and building were perfect - architecturally impressive and beautifully restored but also well thought through and practical for guests. Swimming in the heated outdoor pool in the heavily falling snow (in late April) was very special. Dinner was astounding, with wave after wave of dishes, all delicious, many with complex flavour and texture combinations but also some simpler dishes (excellent bread and baked petit four). Every element was completely fresh and seasonal and most importantly, everything was tasty and comforting and a pleasure to eat. There was massive technical skill and range of ingredients on display, but it was all customer-focussed rather than chef-focussed. Service from Tom and Katarina was excellent and friendly, a little in German but mainly in English. The wine list is massive. The wine we chose (2007 Sgaminegg) was excellent and the other wines we were served by the glass were rather nice also. The "small" breakfast option was huge with great range and extreme quality, with all elements in great condition and temperature.||||And all this despite the whole region being without electricity for two hours before service due to a major unseasonal snowstorm. To deliver this quality in these conditions is a mark of an extraordinary venue.||||This isn't a cheap place to stay and eat, but having visited all the main competitors in Austrian Styria, this is our favourite, it is worth every penny, and we will be back as soon as the distance from...

Read moreGot the primo two night package. Accommodation was fine, charging for E.V. first night 5 course menu was great and very good wine matches. We got the president's upgrade for second night, but was badly let down by second night.we got no amuse bouche, so missed one of chef Irka's staring moments. We knew something was up when other tables were served and we weren't. At 4th course were told, sorry, but they forgot we had booked the extended menu. Wine was Okay but only one outstanding glass.also no petite-four so meal was badly out of whack with others. Felt like second rate guests. Manager didn't recognise us at all even after multiple interactions. Service is way lower than you expect at places with such reputations. I left in a bad mood and...
