The food: Because I am also a fan of reviews, I hopped on trusty ol Google to type in Banana Bay Restaurant in Freeport, Bahamas.
It was a lazy Saturday, & after visiting Mr. Baker 👩🏾🍳 for a piece of coconut and guava tart (delicious, by the way) I decided I was in the mood for some conch fritters as my afternoon treat.
The reviews brought me here...& Banana Bay didn’t disappoint. The fritters were a nice color, not too crispy, not to soft. And filled with conch pieces. To my surprise, (because you never know what you’re gonna get flavour wise, at a beach front restaurant) but the fritters were seasoned perfectly, reminded me of the fritters I grew up eating when Grammy was in then kitchen. So kudos to their recipe & chefs.
The Drink After inquiring about the best frozen drink choices-according to my waiters opinion: He recommended the trusty ol Strawberry 🍓 Daquiri. It was a nice warm temperature for it so I said why the hell not!
The drink was cute. Smaller than I imagined but pretty to look at. Especially when that red liquid is glistening in the sun. chefs kiss
After a few sips...the drink was tasty, but seemed to contain very little alcohol. I had to ask if it was a virgin daiquiri.
My gracious waiter then asked me if I would like more of the “alcohol” insert WandaVisions Agatha wink But nonetheless, the drink that was brought back to me, was the real deal. & I was happy with it.
Pro’s: The conch fritters were very good. The Ambiance: The gorgeous turquoise waters of the Beach Patio/Deck Dining Masks required for entry (which we love seeing)
Cons: Obnoxious table mate at the bench across from me. He pulled out a cigarette and lit right up (a policy that should absolutely be changed to smoking only (outside) of the patio, on the beach...& not next to patrons eating and trying to enjoy a meal.
My other qualm about Banana Bay was the wait time before someone comes over to your table to acknowledge you & bring a menu.
If they were busy, I definitely get that, but there were about 75% free and open tables & they seemed staffed for e crowd. So. If they could have their folks just a little more interested in coming to your table and beginning the process, that would give them 5 stars, in my opinion.
Overall: Next time I’ll try an entree. Had to ease my way into the Banana Bay experience and see how the fritters were, first. I would...
Read moreWe went to Banana Bay numerous times during our stay. Relatively small venue.
Good lunch venue with dining on their open-air deck, which overlooks the most beautiful, palm tree lined Bahamian beach with a 3/4-mile+ walkable sandbar for beach combing.
Lounge chairs can be rented for the day ($5-10 each), as well.
Recommendation/caution: This is a VERY popular stop for cruise ship tours. It typically fills up within minutes of the arrivals of the busses from the cruise ships (on the days they are in port). If you go, we recommend getting there early (before 9:30AM) or, in the early afternoon (after the cruise ship tours have returned to the ships).
If you like quiet beaches, wait here until after 4:00PM. My wife and I walked out on the sandbar for about 1/4 mile (15-minutes), and when we walked back to our lounge chairs next to the deck, we were the only two people on the beach for as far as the eye could see in either direction. Priceless memory! Try it...
Read moreI did not eat an actual meal here, I only had the mozzarella stick appetizer. Which by the way, it's only four mozzarella sticks. Just a suggestion Banana Cay, you may want to include the number of items that a person is going to receive especially if the appetizer is going to cost them $8. Those are mighty expensive mozzarella sticks. Another suggestion to you, please indicate on the menu that you will be receiving salsa with your mozzarella sticks as opposed to marinara sauce. Perhaps that was my mistake for expecting to receive that. But nonetheless, the atmosphere was nice. I would have appreciated better service. Our waitress wasn't the friendliest. She wasn't rude, but seeing as how this is a tourist attraction, I would think that she would be a little bit more welcoming as far as taking an order and interaction...
