Taverne Saint-Géry — Restaurant in Belœil

This place is truly a gem — a cozy family-run restaurant in the Belgian countryside with an excellent beer selection. The chef, Christophe, is incredibly talented, and the food is absolutely delicious.

I first visited this restaurant seven years ago, back when I used to live in Belgium. Now living in the Netherlands, I came back, and I’m happy to say the food is still just as amazing.

The food, the decor, the service, the beer (oh, the beer!); if you don't have a wonderful time here I'm not sure how to explain it. Perhaps it's because you're aren't drinking Moinette like a sensible person (or perhaps you're not drinking enough!). We speak hardly a link of French, but it wasn't an issue at all for the incredibly gracious proprietor, who also accommodated my wife's food allergy without blinking. Truly an excellent experience, and a visit to Leuze, Aubechies, or Ath (and the local sites; don't miss Dupont) is well rounded by a lunch, dinner, or beer at the Taverne....

Si vous cherchez un petit coin bucolique où il fait bon vivre ; alors allez à la taverne saint-Géry. Sincèrement, c’est magique. Vous y serez accueillis par la magicienne des lieux, Sophie car ce lieu est un enchantement auquel nous ne nous attendions pas en venant de France pour nous rendre à 100 mètres de là, au festival Gallo-Romain qui a lieu tous les ans fin août. Grande fut notre surprise de voir donc cette taverne dans ce petit village. L’enchantement commence dès l’extérieur avec ces plaques en métal anciennes fixées sur les murs et plein de détails comme le vieux vélo. On aurait cru un décor de cinéma d’un vieux film en Technicolor où tout est joyeux comme dans les films d’Audrey Hepburn. Et quand on rentre, Ohlala il y a partout des plaques émaillées dialoguant presque avec des affiches de cinéma de Fernandel ou de Bourvil. Il y a une cour à l’arrière donnant dans un petit jardin au frais des arbres. On se sent bien dans cette taverne et on ne veut plus en partir.
