Uncle Sam's — Restaurant in Ghent

Uncle Sam's American Restaurant ROCKS!!! If you don't live in or near Oostakker, do yourself a favor and take a drive to Uncle Sam's. The interior is themed and cheerful. Some of the decor, especially outside and in the toilets was very clever. The people that own and operate the resteraunt are very friendly and inviting, they were super sweet! And the food... oh the food... We started with a appetizer sample plater, which I recommend as a whole, was very tasty. Everything on it was delicious, but the battered onion rings were the star of that show, they are some of the best onion rings, by a mile, that I have ever had. The outsides were golden and crispy, the batter, almost airy, and the onion inside, was moist and slightly sweet. So good... like, really, so so good. I ordered the pulled pork sandwich, which is common in American diners, and was happy to see that they served it with cole slaw right on the sandwich which is how it is made in most bar-b-q joints, along with cheddar cheese, tomato, and jalepenos (if you don't like spicy, I think they would probably leave them off if you ask). The pork itself was really good. It was all served on a roll, that was delicately crisp, but very easy to eat and maintain the ingredients in the sandwich, which can be a messy sandwich. I was very happy with my choice. My sandwich came with a side of curly fries, that were yummy, corn on the cobb, and a side of cole slaw. The cole slaw was pretty good, the sauce was on point. I loved it. My partner had the rib-eye steak, and it was cooked very good and was a nice cut of meat, it also came with cole slaw (a bigger portion than mine, which made me jealous), corn on the cobb, herb butter and regular fries. I had to have dessert, and they have a very nice selection, but I had noticed earlier that they had root beer on the menu, and I haven't been able to find any for a very long time. When I was young, I remember going to the A&W for chilli dogs and root beer floats. So I asked the grand lady of the restaraunt, if she would make me a root beer float for dessert. She kindly granted my request with enthusiasm! I could feel my cheeks turn rosey and I almost cried of happiness as she went to make my float. It was heaven. I can't stress enough, run, don't walk, to Uncle Sam's. RUN!...

Excellent location for a special night out. Booked by e-mail with very good response time. Once there, we were given a booth (American diner style). Ordered a Blue Hawaiian drink for myself and Philly Cheese Steak (highly recommend it!), and my wife had a Gin cocktail and a fish platter (extremely tasty and varied selection of fish and sea food). At the end, they surprised us with ice-cream for the occasion of my wife's birthday. The owner is excellent, and so is the staff. Great mood that took us back to when America was actually great (unlike now), and the theme is enhanced by the ambient music, especially if you catch the Elvis/Beach Boys/Sinatra playlist, and not the Beatles/Abba set. Gisteren zijn we in keileuk gezelschap (M en M, je weet wel, van M, M,M en M 😜) naar Uncle Sam’s geweest in Uustakker. We werden onthaald door een heel lieve dame met witte sneakers, roze rok met witte dots, ik werd er meteen vrolijk van… Dit was trouwens de dresscode van alle medewerkers, Amerikaanse retro ten top. Leuke kaart met Amerikaanse twist. Had Jeanke nog een degelijk haardos, ik had hem meteen ne vetkuif gedraaid zodat hij in den decor paste. We namen een superbowl voor twee personen (zie foto, alle vleesjes liggen verstopt onder de curlyfries) 😳 met al den beste wil van de wereld maar wij hebben dat niet opgekregen 😅 dat is zo een schotel voor als je niet weet wat ge wilt, dan heb je van alles een beetje (alhoewel, ”een beetje” is wat onderdreven) de leutigste frietjes die ik ooit zag, check!! De ribbetjes vielen van de beentjes en de marinade was heerlijk. Pulled pork, kijk terwijl ik het typ komt mijn speekselproductie weer in overdrive, subliem van smaak 👌🏼 de hamburger was ook heerlijk (al heb ik enkel de attributen tussen de broodjes opgegeten wegens tooo much) en de rib eye viel niets op aan te merken, was ook superlekker maar mijn minst favoriete van deze overdaad aan vlees. Verzekers omdat de andere vleesjes zo mals waren en dat ik voor deze mijn mes moest gebruiken 😂 naar de WC gaan vind ik ook altijd wijs, aja, kan niet anders dat dat die ook in thema is. (Helemaal gek van het flamingobehang) Jan en ik moesten spijtiggenoeg toch vroegtijdig forfait geven want de motilium is nog steeds met voorschrift 😅 Jan zat vol, maar een kwartier later liet hij zich toch nog een Amerikaans cremke welgevallen… vandaag ne veggiedag denk ik, ik bedoel dan wel ne veggie die vis eet he 😉 Wij werden dan ook nog es netjes thuis afgezet doot taxi M 🤩 voor herhaling vatbaar 👌🏼 Michelin zal hier niet passeren met zijn sterren, maar deze krijgt zowiezo drie Wiewiesterren 😋 en een 9,5/10 in mijne persoonlijke Gault Millaud.
