's Gravenmolen — Restaurant in Grimbergen

I’ve been going to sGravenmolen for 15 years, used to be my favorite place in Belgium! Location is amazing, terrace is gorgeous.

New owners took it over… they made some changes: they removed the small playground that was keeping kids busy while parents could enjoy their food/drinks, they added a bar-like area - i guess they want to discourage families and groups with kids?

The menu has too many options in my view. We had few sharing dishes, not worth the money (13 euro for 5 small bones of dried out ribs when for 23 euro you can get two racks in the main dishes menu). The voorgerechten we tried were ok but expensive (everything around the 20 euro, 17 euro for a bone marrow with two minuscule pieces of white toast from the bag). We only got ribs for main and they were quite terrible - dry, hard, lukewarm. This place has been a benchmark for great ribs and amazing burgers for years, no more. Everything we had was ok but not great - definitely not crave-worthy.

Staff is really doing their best, but they seem to lack basic training (walking around with the food all the time because they don’t know which table ordered what) and the too extensive menu does not help them.

While some of these issues are inherent to opening a new restaurant (getting the staff to function properly, some menu mishaps…), some worry me (the quality and size of the dishes). Expensive for what it is (we spent 70 euro per person and left hungry) and trying too hard. Might be an idea to concentrate the menu a bit - less things but amazing rather than many things but meh… will definitely go back because i love that place and i hope i will notice some improvement over time, but for now...

The 1st experience in 's Gravenmolen was immediately a special experience. Delicious dining in a homely warm atmosphere. Well-known dishes that we are all fond of for the easy goin person, but also new dishes, unknown dishes for the curious among us the adventurous! And a Day topper: a dish for the week and soup of the day. Book again and again because places are quickly filled due to the high popularity. They also provide excellent parties for every occasion, with a choice of adapted menus. Choice stress? Certainly not! We also had a party twice and it was absolutely great, thanks to the surprising menus and the very good service! Even with your own family you can still choose this restaurant, we know why! Now you! In the winter and cold days wonderfully warm in a cozy winter atmosphere ... during the warm days and hot summers you can relax in a holiday style along a beautiful pond and small pond with beautiful fishes. and even when something goes wrong or a small mistake or miscommunication (because we humans make mistakes) this is treated correctly and with great attention for the costumer!

A must for everyone! Whether you dine with your friends, or family or others... it is always possible to be surprised by all the dishes for everyone.

De 1ste ervaring in 's Gravenmolen was meteen een bijzondere ervaring. Heerlijk dineren in een huiselijke warme sfeer. Bekende gerechten waar we allemaal verzot op zijn voor de easy goin person maar ook nieuwe gerechten, onbekende gerechten voor de nieuwsgierige onder ons the adventurous! En een Dag topper: een gerecht voor de week en soep van de dag. Telkens weer opnieuw reserveren want plaatsen zijn snel bezet door de hoge populairiteit. Ook verzorgen ze uitstekende feesten voor elke gelegenheid, met keuze aan aangepaste menu's. Keuze stress? Zéker niet! Ook wij hebben 2x een feest gehad en die was helemaal top, dankzij de verrassende menu's en de hele goede service! Zelfs met eigen familie toch keuze stellen voor dit restaurant, wij weten waarom! Nu jij nog! In de winter en koude dagen heerlijk warm in een knusse winter sfeer...tijdens de warme dagen en de hete zomers kan je gezellig vertoeven in een vakantie stijl langs een prachtige vijver en kleine vijver met prachtige vissen. En zelfs bij een foutje of miscommunicatie, (want wij al mens maken nu eenmaal fouten) word dit correct en met veel aandacht voor de kant behandeld!

Een aanrader voor iedereen! Of je nu tafelt met je vrienden, of familie of andere...het is altijd je laten verrassen aan alle gerechten voor íeder wat...

Très belle terrasse bordée d'un étang. Tranquille, environnement idylique, On y mange bien, les glaces sont délicieuses.

Petits os à volonté pour les amateurs.

Les serveurs et serveuses sont généralement sympatiques et compétents.

Seul bémol, mais de taille ! Bien que ce lieu se trouve à 2 Km de Bruxelles et se trouve donc fréquenté par autant de francophones que de neerlandophones, le patron ne prétend pas parler le français (alors qu'il maîtrise parfaitement la langue). Il est rustre et désagréable et ferait bien d'éviter tout contact avec le public. Il oblige également son personnel à parler uniquement en neerlandais.

J'y suis allé avec des amis français habitant en France, qui ne parlaient absolument pas un mot de néerlandais (logique). Ils posaient des questions en français et on leur répondais en néérlandais, malgré qu'ils aient annoncé leurs origines. Une vraie honte pour la Belgique, la maison a proclamé son indépendance ! Un vrai scandale ! Le ton est d'ailleurs déjà donné sur le site qui n'est bilingue qu' au niveau des titres et du mot d'accueil. Si vous téléchargez la carte (ou demandez la carte sur place) même si vous sélectionnez le français, elle arrive toujours dans la langue de Vondel !

J'y retournerai lorsque le patron aura remis...
