Wendelenhof — Restaurant in Herk-de-Stad

Promising restaurant. The elements that stuck with me are the quality of the products and the techniques used by the kitchen. What lacked was sophistication and coherence between products, especially if you work at this level.

Our dinner started off with a BANG! All of our appetizers were fenomenal! The steak tartare was really soft with a perfect zing of capers and creamy texture, the carpaccio almost melted on our tongues and the selection of cheeses surprised us in a very good way.

When selecting our drinks, I did notice that the focus was mainly on sodas and beers/wine rather than mocktails (sparkling apple juice and freshly squeezed oj aren't mocktails, imho). That can be upgraded in a very simple way with some lemonade based drinks or iced teas and fruit juices added to them.

Service, in general, was super friendly but here and there there's room for improvement. If you call yourself a gastro bar I expect bread to be refilled without asking. Service was very considerate in other ways, so all in all I was very satisfied here.

Main course left me a bit hungry for that same level of sophistication we received in our first course. First off, we waited for almost 2 hours, which is an extremely long time for 4 dishes and probably distorted my opinion. Secondly, all the products were of very high quality and also well prepared but it seemed like they were islands. Everything was served separately but also tasted like they were missing something: a connector. Sophistication upgrade here would e.g. be trimming the steak of the hard fats.

Same thing happened with dessert for me. All the elements were there but it wasn't really connecting. The acidity of the passionfruit sauce was too harsh to go with the sweetness of the fruit and the bittersweetness of...

Good food in a Cozy atmosphere, some minor short comings in the food, but overall OK. Service is friendly but sometimes took a bit too long. The prices are not really in line withe the quality and service, and therefore the reason why an only 4 star score. Thats said, the spot by the fireplace was very nice and the food was above standard compared to regular restaurants in the area. Just not meeting with the higher...

Heel mooie restaurant. Ligt tegen een mooie kerk. De service was afwisselend per persoon.

Drie keer gevraagd of we eten mee konden nemen en bestel. Voor onze familie lid die helaas niet mee kon wegens omstandigheden. Eerste keer zijden ze dat, dat kon maar moest ff vragen of er tijd voor was. De tweede zij ik zal eens na vragen. De eerste en tweede zijn niet meer terug gekomen voor een antwoord. De derde heeft de bestelling opgenomen en we kregen het mee bij vertrek.

Bij mijn bestelling zat er 1 rouw frietje tussen de frieten. Entrecote Angus smaakte heel goed. De sla wat er bij zat was naar mijn mening niet lekker.

Ik heb eerst een Fanta besteld kreeg een glas en een flesje Fanta. De tweede keer besteld ik cola en kreeg een flesje zonder glas. Dus het zelfde glas maar gebruikt. Derde keer bestelde ik plat water toen namen ze me glas mee en kreeg ik alleen een flesje terug. De vierde keer bestelde ik Fanta en kreeg een glas met eis en klein stukje sinaasappel er in met een flesje.

Elk personeel had blijkbaar hun eigen manier. We zijn geserveerd door vier verschillende personen.
