La Villa du Hautsart — Restaurant in Jodoigne

This is a review about the restaurant, I did not stay in the hotel.

I found it through the promotion of “dining with the starts” (for culinary/michelin restaurants).

The food and service were overall ok but nothing to highlight. We had the five course menu. However, the service was extremely slow. After 1h30 we had had the first entry. Sometimes the wait between courses was 45’. I find this unacceptable. It took us almost 4h to have 5 courses (out of which only two are hot)

Moreover, we found it really shocking that after having a diner of this type, the restaurant doesn’t make it clear that they offer you a drink on start (a tiny fruit juice), and they’ll charge you 8€! Or when they offer you a coffee at the end they will charge you 5€ for an espresso. (And it was not even truly an espresso they just made a classic coffee and served half a cup…). They should at least make it clear that these are extras and of such cost.

I still leave 3 stars because the food itself was good but it was not a fully enjoyable experience with so much waiting and definitely ended in a bitter note with the surprises on the check.

Nous avons choisi la Villa Hautsart pour notre mariage et le cadre est tout simplement superbe : jardin et salle magnifiques, atmosphère élégante. Grand atout : pas besoin de chercher un traiteur, le restaurant gastronomique sur place est excellent. Les menus sont variés, les convives ayant des allergies ont reçu sans problème des alternatives, et le service en salle comme en extérieur était irréprochable, mené par une équipe professionnelle et attentionnée. Autre point positif : la possibilité d’apporter une partie de nos boissons sans droit de bouchon, moyennant un forfait par personne bien plus raisonnable que si l’on prend tout sur place. Le bémol concerne le patron. Plusieurs invités nous ont rapporté une attitude froide : pas de bonjour ni d’au revoir à l’arrivée des convives, une impression d’être « de trop » lorsqu’ils commandaient à l’open bar, et une communication compliquée en amont (réponses tardives à notre wedding planeuse ). Nous avons même appris qu’à une heure du matin, lorsqu’un invité a simplement demandé de l’eau, il lui a été répondu que « les mariés n’avaient pas voulu payer l’heure supplémentaire » alors que nous n’avions jamais été consultés. En résumé : le lieu, la cuisine et l’équipe de service sont parfaits pour un mariage, mais il serait appréciable que la direction adopte un accueil plus chaleureux et une communication plus souple pour être à la hauteur de...

Nice restaurant gastronomique. It felt to us that they are having a focus on large groups, so this was good quality for this kind of gastronomique restaurant, but probably a bit less elaborated in the presentation and service compared to restaurants that focus on only small amounts. The wine pairing was excellent, and the environment is really special. So, this is a nice experience and definitely a recommendation for...
