Saturday, the 9th of November 2019,||||The morning has still some dew on her doorstep, when we pack our bags into the car for a three day journey. For the moment the sun keeps out of site, as we depart for a two-hour drive to Redu. But the weatherforcast is looking good for the time being, at the beginning of November. Taking a break, halfway, having a cup of coffee and a stretch of the legs, before driving further on. So far, every mile has passed smoothly under the wheels. ||||The small village of Redu is a familiar spot, we visit once a year on this occasion. On site, we have reserved a table for lunch in the brasserie. It has become a habit over the years, while spending a weekend in the Ardennes, to meet with our fiends for lunch in le Fournil. It sits on a hill, just in front of the church, in a village the is famous for his bookstores. Non the less, there's more to see for those who appreciate stunning views, especially in the colourful Autumn season. ||||Inside, more people have found there way to this brasserie, while the wood-burning stove spreads a cozy warmth. The bar area was fully occupied, so the waiter accompanied us directly by to our table, handing over the menu's. Time for an aperitive and choosing a dish. To a great weekend ahead, cheers! Good food too, as usual. The kitchen is nothing fancy, but serves tasteful comfortfood. After lunch, it's into the fresh air and up for a walk into the woods. We all are looking forward to what...
Read moreWe, couple + adolescent children, were having a vacation in the Ardennen and having as goal the visit of Bouillon, walking and being together as family. With the current corona measures, of course we knew that the restaurants are closed. From the hotel, we were surpirsed of not staying "in the hotel", but we needed to cross the village sqaure, go down the stairs, then up the stairs on the first floor of Il Forno, a pizzeria. The rooms are recently renovated, so that is nice. The shower is working well. However, the TV is lacking some "card inseration", so only very few channels and low quality image. The floor itself is thin, so the movements can be felt throughout. The airconditioning/heating system has a bright light, shining in the night. For people who want that it is really dark, a problem. The first night, the table and chairs were removed from the rooms, because they were needed elsewhere. We were asked several times to make our order for their restaurant, a little uncomfortable. We wanted our freedom. In addition, we like to be together as a family, so it was nice that the table and chairs were back in the room, so we could eat our takeaway all together in the room, the second evening. It was also nice that glasses and cutlery were available from a cart in the hallway. For walking, there are some paths from the village. Bouillon is 30...
Read moreWe were looking for a place to eat after visiting the space museum and by chance we picked this place. When we arrived at the village for the first time we were all struck by how beautiful it was especially the center of the village where the church was and the restaurant. It also had a hotel located upstairs which after looking at it I was very tempted to stay the night. The menu was pretty large but I had one complaint that they didn't provided in English so we had to guess pretty much what we were going to eat and try to translate it on our phones. The waiter and waitress unfortunately didn't speak very good English, but in the end everything turned out okay. The food was very tasty it didn't take long to arrive and it was very presentable. The inside of the restroom was absolutely amazing with fireplaces wooden floors great furniture and just a homey feeling all around. If I wanted to impress somebody I would learn French and take him there to eat. Parking was ample outside, and the kids can't even walk around outside since the village is not very busy. We will definitely try to go...
