My husband and i stayed in la source de la geronstere over the weekend of the Belgium grand prix 2012 from Thursday to Monday morning. The place is in a beautiful setting of the Ardennes forests in a very quiet area. On arrival our room wasn’t quite ready so we had a 20min wait (no big deal at all. When we got into our room it was clean and tidy but it was only this a bedroom with general bedroom furniture wardrobe and dressing table and a sink and mirror in the corner, we believed we were to receive a room with an en-suite. (as we had paid a clean fortune) At first we were disappointed that we would be using a shared bathroom however in using the shower and loo etc it was no big deal really kind of like being at home and having to wait a little while to get to the shower because some of the family were in it you know it was always clean too (there were more toilets downstairs)||||On our first night there we booked in for dinner in the restaurant downstairs, no staff could speak English and the menus were all in French making it very difficult to pick something to eat, the boss who could speak English wasn’t about so my husband who could understand a little basically got us steak and chips each which he loved but I wasn’t fussed.||||In this quiet sleepy setting we were very surprised at the liveliness that took place at night, though it was over a weekend, they were partying, shouting and singing with very loud music just downstairs which we actually found a little funny but it usually always stopped between 11 and 12pm which we were thankful for as we were getting up very early every morning to head down to Francorchamps to get parked etc. to go to the track.||||On the first morning we had our breakfast pretty quickly on the 2nd morning however we were up very early and because himself had been partying so hard the night before he hadn’t sorted out our breakfast and said il be back in 10minutes with your breakfast sort your selves out there with tea/coffee and juice. So he left and we helped ourselves to tea and coffee and juice from behind the bar which I thought was again funny.||||Obviously after our first night dinner disaster we decided we would drive into Spa and find somewhere else to eat the distance from geronstere to Spa I’d say was like 10minutes drive if even, we always got parked up beside the town hall or whatever it was with the fountain out the front and found a restaurant called Café de l'Europe though it had big signs outside it called Maes. This place was just on the corner down to the left of where we parked.||||Another night we decided we would love like a McDonalds and jumped on the satnav to find us one which we found in a place Called Verviers which was like 20minutes drive away pretty handy, this place was also a bit bigger than spa and even had the odd shop so I went and bought some clothes hehe.||||The Hotel/B&B whatever it was, was grand, clean room (no room service or replenished towels though (but I think if you’d asked the boss for anything he would sort you out no problem like he did with me and a hairdryer) all in all in was in a beautiful setting, I’m sure the food would be fantastic if you knew what to ask for unlike ourselves, breakfast was always fresh a little repetitive but that’s a European breaky so no biggy for us. Also lovely people working there not much English as mentioned earlier but very nice genuine people. I think if I was to go to the Belgium grand prix again I would stay here again but only after looking for somewhere maybe a little cheaper as like last time everything is booked up immediately so this was all we could find though it was still lovely.||||The hotel/b&b was also about 5 minute’s drive down the road from when you hit Francorchamps, a little advice regarding the f1 end of things don’t pay for parking when buying your tickets for race to this track there are fields on either side of road nearly all the way through francorchamps which are cheaper than the tickets you pay for online when buying your race tickets. When you first hit the traffic like us you may be tempted to ditch the car on the side of the road there and then, but the traffic does keep moving slowly but in no time if you stick with it you’ll be upon the signs for parking in the fields unlike us on our first day were we had to walk which was quite a distance especially in the driving rain. I don’t think I’m missing anything really important now, this was probably a lot less stressful attending this f1 weekend than I had imagined (as with the tickets disaster running up to it literally 2 days before we left I expected just more stress), everything in francorchamps etc runs so smoothly and the fact that we were only down the road in La Source de la Geronstere probably...

Read moreThis place is amazing. It's quite a drive to reach here as it's not in town and secluded in the forest but it makes the journey all worthwhile.
The place is quaint and cosy with a restaurant and small BnB. Went for the restaurant. The waiter cum chef had difficulty speaking English as he is French. That's a good sign as French are the best cooks. He was the Jack-of-All-Trade as he took the orders, grilled the meat and mend the cashier as well.
Complimentary starters are salmon and pate on toast. Got straight to the main course and ordered an entrecote and a rack of lamb. Was not even asked how we want the meat to be grilled so I assumed the chef know his thing as the meat are cooked on firewood grill. I was contemplating on ordering lobster but decided to pass as I had thought of the location being land-locked and the lobster could be frozen. I was so wrong, there was an aquarium near the bar and they will cook fresh lobster upon request.
Both the entrecote and rack of lamb turned out beautifully delicious. Both nicely grilled but at the same time, retains the juiciness of the meat. The red sauce complemented the lamb without destroying it's flavor. The same with the entrecote, accompanied by the mushroom sauce. The sauces are home made as well. Meat was one of the best I had in the Continent. Everything was perfect.
This place is a gem in the Spa Region. Try to make a booking should you decide to go to...
