Commanderie 7 — Restaurant in Voeren - Fourons

Lovely place set in a nice scenery with the castle as backdrop.

This trout farm uses well water to breed at least 3 types of fresh trout. There's several interconnected ponds on the compound that all have trout of different ages and types.

There's a nice terras that overlooks the main pond with some huge pretty fish and a swan to finish the picture. (can't guarantee its presence) Otherwise they have some indoor seats and a little shop that sells a variety of trout and fish related products.

The place of course serves various dishes with fresh and smoked trout. They keep it plain and simple with good quality ingredients that preserve the delicate taste of trout. Unlike other breed trout these don't taste muddy due to the rocky shallow ponds and constantly flowing well water. There's a nice selection of beers and wines to complement your food. For the kids there's pancakes too.

Staff is friendly, mainly Dutch and French speaking.

Note: This is not a fish petting place. Fish is breed, caught, cleaned and prepared. Each stage can be observed but can also easily be avoided...

I had an excellent time at Commanderie7. I had the opportunity to join a tour and was shown around the trout farm, which I found highly interesting, informative (from a historical and cultural point of view) and interactive. The staff there were warm, friendly and approachable and the food itself was fresh and cooked to perfection. There are also products you can buy to take home - I bought the gravlax trout and trout mousse - was delicious with baguette. I highly recommend visiting and eating at Commanderie7. Delicious fish restaurant in a marvelous setting, a terrace with a view on the Voeren castle ponds, where they grow the trout that you will eat here. A tour of the grounds, with our without guide, make an interesting addition to a culinary delight. Very friendly staff! You can also order fresh trout to take away and bake yourselves. They will advise you how to cook it, and they have ghee to bake it in, as well as herbs and sauces. Selection of local wines and beers awaits your palate, and local cheese platter or a sweet dessert finish the delights....
