A Belizean Paradise!!
Totally thought we were in the Garden of Eden!! Just a day or two into our stay, I insisted we be addressed as Adam & Eve 🐍
Let’s break this down by category...
Food Not once did I find the quality of food or selections to be subpar. The resort uses the most freshest ingredients and delicious combinations so that guests have the ultimate experience in typical Belizean dining. If you expect to visit a different country, make sure you’re open minded to their cuisine. If not, take vacations in your own country. As for the resort being quite far from alternative dining and feeling forced to buy meals here, the best option you have is to select one of their stay packages, which include 3 course meals daily but be aware this does NOT include drinks. You can find each meal’s menu on their website, so get acquainted with the foods they offer. We enjoyed the specials, like Water Buffalo Marinara, Tuna Tostones, Venison and Seared Tuna, yummmmmm.
Location The resort is located deep within the mainland and unless you have ur own vehicle, chances are you will remain there for the duration of your stay. Keep in mind that some of those stay packages I mentioned, include tours AND transportation. If you’d like to venture out to an area that isn’t included in a package, yes, you will pay for the transportation so again, take advantage of the packages. The drive is a bit more than an hour and 15 minutes from the international airport and while most of the roads are paved, there are many miles of gravel roads. We had many great conversations with our drivers so the time and off-road driving wasn’t such a big deal, so just sit back, enjoy the bumpy ride and let the drivers give you some great history!!!
Accommodations, Facilities & Decor Our flight back to the states was cancelled, TWICE and each time, Melanie welcomed the extended stay. I found she was super easy to talk to when issues popped up. She never gave me the impression that she was neglectful or inflexible; always willing to address any concerns. The resort is about 35 years old and although there is plenty to find that could use an update or repair, it actually gives more character to the property. The crumbling statues complimented the stone walkways, beautiful mosaic patterns and intricate details throughout their constructed land. If ur looking for modern design, you’re not likely to find it here as the owners have delicately selected simple, natural resources for their build-out. The resort is eclectic with many cultural items throughout. If you appreciate color, culture and art, you’ll love this resort!!
Wifi You’re not likely to get adequate service while inside the resort and for many miles surrounding it but if you’re on vacation, why would you need it anyway???? Communication with the resort was simple and reliable with the WhatsApp and if we really needed to use the internet, a short walk to the fountain pool would be the solution, as it was closest to the satellite dish. We didn’t mind the disconnection because it gave us more time for each other, and more time to appreciate the resort. Believe it or not, after 26 years of marriage, it was a much needed break from the noise and distractions.
I could go on with all the features we enjoyed, such as the staff, the beautiful, symbolic artistry music and the drinks...oh the drinks ❤️❤️❤️.
Staff and management work very hard to create the perfect stay for you and although I know it’s not, they make it seem easy. After 9 days, I was sad to go as I developed a genuine appreciation for the people of Belize. Thank you to Melanie, Nick, Merickston, Sterling (owners & sons) Alemkar & David (drivers & guides), Gloria & Jameala (sp ?) (wait staff), Norma (housekeeping), our 2 masseuses (names ?), the cooks, security, the resort dog ❤️. Till...
Read more“On the other side of the world, far away from all the blur, there’s a place, something you could never imagine.” This place is the beautiful Belize Boutique Resort and Spa, and that opening quote is an excerpt from our song, entitled “Ride with You”. It would only be fitting to write a song about a place that I had fallen in love with for so long. The thing is, I didn’t just fall in love with the place, but also with the welcoming, warm, graceful and positive hosts, Melanie and Nicky, from the resort. Being surrounded by a farm of coconut trees and the musical vibe upon entering the lounge area, is so chill and calming it almost immediately makes you feel as though you are in another realm. There are so many reasons that keep me going back time and time again to Belize Boutique Resort and Spa. I’ve had so many repeat visits that I now consider myself family. Initially we would visit the resort for family days, birthdays, and pool days but as I got older, it was the spa and accommodations that called me. Whenever I needed some pampering, I wouldn’t hesitate to drive to the resort just to get their amazing massage, pedicure and manicure, or simply to lounge by the pool with some exotic food and drinks. Trust me, my body and mind thanked me every single time. The only dilemma would be whether to get the mud massage, the aromatherapy, or maybe a seaweed wrap! To be honest, I was stuck on the mud massage for years. The natural mud is detoxifying, cooling to the body and leaves the skin soft and smooth. One day I was experiencing a burning sensation in my neck and shoulders, so Mel, introduced me to the aromatherapy full body massage. Of course, the masseuse concentrated on my neck and shoulder area and I walked out literally feeling like “a weight had been lifted off my shoulders”; pun intended. The plus is that their masseuses are well trained, respectable, professional, friendly and have many years of experience. They know exactly what they are doing! The resort also offers an exotic and artistic location to do photoshoots and music videos. It is the perfect canvas for a singer, songwriter and music director like me. The scenic layout is not something you see every day and gives me much to work with. In 2015, My music video for the song, “Soca Mode” was shot at the resort, garnering an award for Best Music Video at the Belize International Film Festival. The Mud massage was also featured in my “Rollercoaster Ride” Music Video in 2017, and now I’m looking forward to our upcoming music video shoot for the song “Ride With You”. It will feature more of the resort and capture the essence of love, tranquillity, and positive energy. When you’re looking for a peaceful escape, away from the busy routines of life, Belize Boutique offers just that. Each area has its own mood, with vibrant colours and different settings. With only 20 rooms on 1000 acres of land, you are sure to find the peace and quiet that you’ve been looking for. Each room exudes its own vibe, making you want to try a different room each time you visit just to see what it feels like. I think by now, I have almost tried them all. One can only imagine what to expect with rooms names such as Loft, Moon Shine, Opium Villa, Honeymoon Chapel and Fertility Bungalow. Not to mention the penthouse, it is so lovely. Belize Boutique is also a romance capital. It sets the mood for love. It is one of the places that must be on your list for a romantic getaway, a private wedding, or the perfect honeymoon. You can get lost in each other, with no interference. Come to think of it, I’m way overdue on a visit right now, I’ll have...
Read moreI stayed at Abezza for 4 nights for my first solo international trip. I used the Chase credit card travel agent to find the resort. While there were some definite highlights of my stay there, if I had to do it over I would have done my own hotel research and stayed elsewhere. ||But first, the positives. The grounds that the resort is on are BEAUTIFUL. Palm trees everywhere, lots of beautiful hibiscus and other plants, and a lovely marsh area where you can bird watch. I woke up every morning to birdsongs of at least 12 different bird species- so cool! The two pools were lovely, and all the lounging spaces were nice. The mud massage I got was fantastic- excellent masseuse and the outdoor bath made me feel like a goddess. All the staff are very kind and truly do their best to meet guest needs. Sandy, one of the servers, was a lovely young woman to chat with during mealtimes. Delwin was my tour guide for cave tubing and Altun Ha- he was not only very polite, but he was very knowledgeable as a guide and answered all my questions.||Now, the drawbacks. The biggest one, and one that Abezza can’t necessarily control, is that for most of my stay I was the only guest at the resort. With the size of the resort, being the only guest there felt very odd, especially around mealtimes in the dining area. I am very grateful that Abezza was accommodating with the tours I was interested in and didn’t charge me the private tour rate, but I know it would have positively impacted my experience had there been other people on the tour with me. ||Secondly, I was disappointed with the food- it felt very overpriced ($25-30 for an entree), and the dishes themselves were often not exciting to me. Meals are cooked to order and there are different chef specials every day, which sounds great in theory but the dish options were sometimes stir fry or pasta, when really I wanted more traditional Belizean food. I was surprised and disappointed that some of the most traditional Belizean dishes were never on the menu- stew chicken, rice & beans, plantains, tamales, fry jacks- but that the lunch menu had an entire American comfort food section that included hot dogs and pizza. Given how isolated Abezza is, they are essentially the only food option while you’re a guest so that was frustrating for me. ||Thirdly, the isolation itself of Abezza— while in theory it is nice to be so far off the beaten path in a very quiet, rural area, that also meant that prices for tours were much higher because most required at least a one hour drive. One frustrating example was the Baboon Sanctuary: Abezza charges $80 USD but when you enter you pay the sanctuary an additional $10 and one of THEIR guides does the tour. So essentially the $80 is just the 3hr round trip drive. ||The resort property itself also seemed a little past its prime with half built buildings on the outskirts, which was a very odd juxtaposition with the drivers using shiny white Teslas for tours. There was also nonstop electronic instrumental music from this one playlist that was played in the dining areas and in all the cars. ||So my stay at Abezza was a mixed bag of positives and some drawbacks. I had a pleasant time and really enjoyed exploring the country of Belize and relaxing in the beautiful natural scenery. I just think for my next trip I will choose a resort that isn’t so isolated and has a more reliably traditional and...
