Before I say anything, I want to say that I have had pizza all over the Yucatan, I would be willing to bet that this is the best pizza in all of Belize, Mexico, Guatemala and Honduras. Next let me say this, Wolfgang Puck has said the test of a good chef is to ask them to make an omelet. Sounds simple enough, but doing an omelet well is an art and a skill few really master. Pizza is the same. The true test of a really good pizza is a plain cheese pizza. There's no place to hide. There is only crust, cheese and sauce. If they are not all exceptional, the whole thing fails or tries to compensate with other ingredients. I ordered the Chicago Deep dish cheese (only) pizza. We were not disappointed. Is it a traditional Chicago deep dish, like a Lou Malnati, no it is not. Could it hold its own in Chicago as a specialty deep dish pizza, I would say it could. A true Chicago style pizza has a yeasty doughy crust, thin at the edge, thick underneath and super buttery crispy everywhere the dough meets the baking dish. This crust was not like that, but it made up for those elements with a lighter chewy, cheese filled crust edge which felt natural and not like some gimmick you might find at an American chain. The sauce at la Piccola is one of, if not the absolute best pizza sauces outside of Sicily that I've ever had, and I've had a lot of pizza in my travels. Its has the perfect balance of tomato tartness and sweetness without the bitterness from tomato seeds and it does not hide behind garlic or basil. The cheese felt fresh with the perfect toothsomeness that good mozzarella should have. You better believe, we'll be...
Read moreThis our second time going to La Piccola. Our first time was 2 months ago and we couldn't wait to come back. Chris and his family and staff are great people. We enjoy spending time with them so much we forget to order lol.
First time we ordered pizza, wings and onion rings....it was absolutely incredible!!! We were hot and tired from our day and they took amazing care of us.
Second time there was a little drama with a intoxicated customer. It started with her being loud and unhappy...it turned into her yelling and screaming at the owner...then she started cursing, being disrespectful, saying things about my girlfriend and I. Chris was EXTREMELY patient and polite the entire time while dealing with her...including not charging her for the bill and packing her meal to go. She finally left after Chris threatened to call the police.
After she left, Chris and his family were very apologetic. I told them we were happy that they provided entertainment for the evening.
As for our meal this time...we both ordered The Lobster Special...a grilled lobster tail, lobster pasta and rice peala. Everything was cooked to perfection!!!.
Will we go back? YES but unfortunately they're closed today (Tuesday)....we will be there Wednesday and probably Thursday Friday and...
