As with all Amans, stellar standards of service, delightful personal touches and fantastic attention to detail. A very warm welcome - indeed, “Welcome home”. We were also fortunate enough to experience the outdoor bonfire and singing and dancing with local ladies and the chef on our first evening, replete with local cider hot toddies, hot water bottles placed onto our laps with blankets and hot snacks. The fact that an enterprising local dog broke a plate pinching the sausages I had left while I was dancing round the fire pit, just added to the memorable nature of the occasion! It was a wonderful evening.||The food was excellent and it was delightful to have the opportunity to have breakfast outside in the warm sun, overlooking the surrounding village buildings and countryside.||The room was large and supremely comfortable, if slightly dark.||A charming and memorable touch was the blessing by a monk on our departure after our two night stay and we we very impressed by the manager who, at all times was very friendly and we thought dealt very calmly and helpfully with other guests who were understandably perturbed when their flight back to Paro was cancelled, due to technical difficulties (Something completely beyond the control of Aman, but please note that the flight is intermittently cancelled, due to sometimes weather conditions, too. Much safer therefore, as we were advised, not to depend on a flight back to Paro if you need to make an onward flight, but to fly to Bumthang from Paro near the start of a Bhutan tour, then gradually make your way back to Paro, in stages via Gangtey and Punakha, by road.)||We had originally wanted to stay at all five of the Amankora lodges in Bhutan, but due to availability during their high season, even aiming to book 11 months before, could only accommodated at Bumthang. We absolutely adored our stay there, but having also stayed at the Gangtey Lodge, the Uma in Punakha and in a beautiful one bed villa at the Uma in Paro, were actually glad we had the variety. The rooms in the Aman lodges seem identical and overall the lodges have fewer Bhutanese touches, paintings, textile wall hangings etc. than the other properties we stayed at. We hiked past the Aman lodge at Gangtey, and drove past the one at Punakha. We both thought the setting and views of the Uma at Puniakha ( stupendous!) and from Gangtey Lodge were far superior, and we were very impressed by both properties. Mentioned just in case of use to others planning an overall itinerary in Bhutan. We are self confessed “Aman junkies” and have now stayed at ten of their wonderful properties, but this trip showed us there are some other very special places to stay, too. ||Our stay at Bumthang was just as glorious as at the others however! The road journey onto Gangtey from there was very long and quite the “road massage” our lovely guide described it as, but we are still very glad we visited the Bumthang valley, to see another, and very beautiful, quiet and rural part of...

This review is long overdue as our visit was in November 2024 but the memories of this bucket list trip remains fresh as we recall the happy smiling faces and the wonderful hospitality of our hosts at the various Aman lodges we stayed on our 2 week adventure. The 1st stop on our Bhutan sojourn was Thimphu. Arriving at Paro airport, we were met by our guide Tashi and driver Ugyen whom we immediately felt a connection with - warm, smiling and welcoming. Tashi was a wealth of information and over the next 2 weeks, we got to know each other as friends. Presented with a beautiful folder containing all the information, details, map and itinerary of our trip, we knew it was going to be a trip of a lifetime. Amankora Thimphu was most definitely a good place to start; arriving at the lodge, we were met by the host Kinley who ensured that we had everything we needed. Despite being older, Thimphu is an understatement of quiet luxury and everything was beautifully maintained. Meals could be adjusted to whatever you wanted - simple and fresh or full on fine dining. We visited the gardens where we were introduced to the organic farming practised by the gardener who tended to everything with such love and care - no wonder everything tasted so fresh and sweet! We even collected our own freshly laid eggs which we had for breakfast. Rose, the manager was very hands on and made sure we were looked after. The rooms are large, airy and bright when all the blinds are opened up but in the evenings we felt the lighting was a little too subdued and could have been a little brighter but this was a minor issue that did not bother us. The beds are heavenly and the bath tub is filled each evening so you return to the room and can have a nice soak. We spent 2 blissful nights here and mornings included yoga or meditations sessions and after breakfast (choices of local delicacies or the usual breakfast fare of eggs and bacon) days were filled with short hikes and excursions and our evenings were around the fire and on 1 evening, a wonderful cultural dance show put up by the local villages - everything was arranged to be so personal and inclusive. Nothing was ever too much trouble and the hosts and staff were so obliging and made sure your every need is looked after (the little angels from housekeeping keep everything in your room perfectly neat and tidy without you even noticing). What a wonderful start to our trip and we knew it was simply going to get better as we moved on to the other 4 Amankora lodges.Thank you to the team of Amankora Thimphu for a great stay and setting the bar so high. Such a pleasure and only after 2 days, we felt so at home and a little sad to be leaving. Our next stop was Punakha - subject to a...
