I was in Maun for the weekend arriving in time for lunch on Friday. I had heard about Marc's Eatery but it surpassed all my expectations. I am gluten intolerant and on a Ketosis diet and generally feel so deprived but not here! Marc caters for very many diet restrictions and it made it so hard to choose! For lunch I chose the Banting burger with a delicious green salad and chimichurri. The burger was so moist and after chatting to Marc found out it has feta in it and it makes it soooo delicious. I was back again for dinner and had the Beef filet steak with a mushroom sauce - best meat I have ever tasted and so tender and perfectly cooked. Yes I was back the following day for a brunch - sounds ridiculous but I had already seen that Marc makes an Egg Florentine and I just had to try. I was not disappointed - a glorious bed of spinach with a layer of bacon and a poached egg and perfectly made Hollandaise sauce - who would have thought this was possible in Maun? They served it with two seed crackers as they knew I was gluten free already. Wow I was blown away three times and found the ambiance and service on a par with trendy eateries in cosmopolitan cities but then even friendlier with Marc great Bostwanian crew. Need I say more? You have to go and plan to go back more than once while you...
Read moreI have been coming to this gem of a restaurant with my safari groups for a few years, the team and the chef always delivers a memorable experience. The location is beautifully decorated, especially lovely at dinner, when the garden is gently lit and you can sit by the fire between courses or after your meal. The open kitchen invites you into the cooking process of the young team of African chefs directed my Marc, who is always in the house. Service is prompt and friendly, the selection of wines is carefully thought of and nicely paired with the food on offer. The menu is a very unique blend of African and modern food, my safari guests and myself count among favorites the game stews cooked in wine with sides of pap or sweet potato, prepared to match the western palates but still paying respect to the original. Marc, the owner and head chef, is himself a joy to meet, he has an interesting personal story and is always sourcing the best, most delicious local ingredients and builds inventive dishes around them: from home grown vegetables, which are so hard to find in this nook of Botswana, to Okavango grass-fed beef that literally melted in our mouths. I always call on the day to book our tables and ask for the day specials, because they tend to sell out immediately, they...
Read moreI've been coming to Maun since 1980 so I've seen my fair share of restaurants come & go. When I first stepped off the plane on the dusty Maun airport, it was straight in the Duck Inn for a burger & a cold beer. Sadly the Duck lost its edge and closed, and I've had to wait another 40 years for Marc's to take its place as the best place to eat in Maun. I love their burgers. I travel the world and judge a place on their burgers, and can hand on heart say that Marc's is one of the best. Can't wait for the virus to go away so I fly to Maun for the world's best...
