Category: Local. We accidentally found this local gem while staying at the nearby Quinta da Lapa winery (see my separate review). It’s small and intimate, but magically has at least five dining rooms. It’s exactly as I would expect a comfortable, local Portuguese countryside restaurant to be: stone wall behind the small, standup bar, plaster walls painted white or in earth colors, tile floor, chalkboard menu, rustic wooden tables and chairs, many wine bottles on wooden shelves, photos of local scenes and farm tools on the walls. With the help of our friendly and excellent server, who was really trying to speak English, and with no help from Google Translate, we deciphered the Portuguese-only menu, which was part of the fun (BTW, this is a good way to distinguish a truly local restaurant from a tourist restaurant; Portuguese-only means local). The kitchen’s specialty seems to be grilling, which was proven by my excellent Secreto cut of Iberico pork (the best cut of pork on the planet). Sarah had an excellent vegetable soup after having a too-big lunch. We accompanied the meal with a 500ml pitcher of the house Tinto, and ended with a tasty chocolate mousse. If you happen to be in the area, give it a try. YouTube’s...
