We had visited Cooper Island Resort for lunch many times while cruising around the BVI, but we had never stayed at the resort. I had always wanted to spend a few days there, and finally got to do so last week. ||We knew it would be a quiet "Toes in the sand, book in the hand" place... after all it was the only lodging on the island and it only has 12 rooms, and just the one restaurant. ||What we did NOT expect was the casual elegance, stunning grounds, amazing staff and exceptional cuisine. There were literally only 3 guests staying at the resort while we were there... and we were two of them (Shout out to Kelly! - the third guest). The resort is really driven by the sailing community brought to the location by the beautiful anchorage. The good-sized resatuarant was fully booked almost every night. The resort has a boutique, a bakery, a dive shop, a rum bar with 400 (not a typo) rum choices, all set in a beatiful waterfront setting, and with 25-30 boats in the harbor each night, there is a vibrant active feel into the evening. ||A good section of the beachfront is reserved for resort guests only, with cabanas, lounge chairs, water toys, snorkle gear all avaiable. We were on a plan that included dinner (which you kind of have to be, as there is truely nothing else at all on the small island), and even if the restaurant was fully booked and packed there was an empty table, on the water, waiting for us for the whole evening, every evening, for whenever we wanted to dine. ||I did not have really high expectations for the dining, I'm a little bit of a food snob, and usually a no-other-option facility, with a captive clientel, does not throw down exceptional fare. They did. You could go a week and never repeat an exceptional dinner (though you might want to). Execution and presentation are some of the best I have seen in the Carribean. ||The people watching and boat watching is a delight, there is a massive amount of comfortable seating enclaves scattered along the boardwak that spans the length of the resort. ||The room was beautiful (much better than I expected), with stunning views. I would be remiss if I didn't mention that there is no air conditionong in the rooms, and some unlucky weather timing made it pretty toasty at night for us. However, even if it was exactly the same, I would go back. The overall experience is that good. I'm told that there action afoot that may attempt to address the A/C issues in the near future (I hope, I hope...). ||If you need tons of activities, tennis, golf, a pool, a rocking bar scene, room service... this is probably not your place. ||But if you are ok watching the lapping waves on a lounge chair in the shade of a seagrape tree with a Mango Daquiri in your hand... I'll...
Read moreWe had an extremely negative experience with the restaurant staff. The restaurant manager did not want to seat us because she was annoyed that we asked to change our reservation twice. This was purely out of spite and not due to them being at capacity. See below for the full story.
We chartered a catamaran and chose to go to Copper Island on the last day of our trip. We spent the day here in the past, but this time we had a poor experience. We had some issues within our party so we asked split our reservation into two tables, which they begrudgingly accommodated. Later in the evening some of our group decided to ask to be seated early, despite the rest of us not being ready. The restaurant manager said that we could not keep our reservation because half of our group was seated early. I was very apologetic asked if we could be on the waitlist for four people. The manager advised that we would only be seated if there was a reservation cancelation. She came off apathetic and rude. After waiting until our original reservation time, one of our party, who the restaurant manager had not seen before, walked in and asked for a table. They said they could seat us immediately. When I walked in, the restaurant manager glared at me and made it clear she never intended to seat me despite her ability to. We were able to have dinner, but the manager was clearly not happy about it. If they truly could not accommodate us, then that is understandable. Especially given the strange nature of our requests. However, I find it insulting that we were not going to be accommodated out of spite. There are far friendlier places to eat and spend your money in the Virgin Islands area. The food was incredible and the bar staff were very nice. However, I would not recommend this resort or restaurant purely based on the restaurant manager.
Additionally, the rest of the staff were working very hard, but the manager sat behind a counter in the far corner of the restaurant. She had her phone out and occasionally barked orders at staff. Completely unacceptable and I would not recommend anyone accept a job offer from...
Read moreCooper Island Beach Club was just what we needed to rediscover the piece of mind, inner tranquility, and sense of togetherness that sometimes is in need of a reminder when you are caught up in all of the rushing around and stress you acquire in life these days. The world is a crazy place right now and Cooper Island takes you away from the daily grind and the daily media explosion many of us seem to be faced with. ||A beautiful and tranquil escape in the British Virgin Islands, Cooper Island provided everything we expected and more. With a beautiful canvas provided by the natural beauty of the British Virgin Islands, this family owned eco resort provided us everything we needed to fully relax and unwind. We stayed in one of eight beautifully appointed rooms with a spectacular view of Manchineel Bay. It was just perfect, whether taking in the view of one of the up to 40 boats mooring in the harbor from our room, on the terrace sofa, or in the hanging chair. ||The food at Cooper Island was amazing! The chef and his team were able to coax more flavor out of our dinners than we have experienced anywhere in the world in quite some time. Breakfast was peaceful perfect as was the amazing Cooper Island Rum Bar. The coffee bar was everything we could ask for and I would say overall, the food and beverage product offered at Cooper Island was absolutely incredible. ||The boutique on island was well stocked, fairly priced (trust me, we left Cooper with more than our fair share of merchandise) and introduced us to one of our favorite new games, Shut The Box. We purchased the game and not only enjoyed playing on island but took it with us for the rest of our travels over the following week and continue to play almost daily back at home. ||I simply can't express in words how much our trip to Cooper Meant to us and would highly recommend Cooper Island whether looking for a terrific place to stop for lunch when our exploring the BVI waters by boat, looking for a place to moor for the night, or looking for a little solitude, amazing food, and touch of Caribbean Elegance for your...
