After a busy day of meetings at work our host took a spontaneous decision to take us to dinner at the Bushman Cafe hotel. We parked outside on the road, being helped to find a spot by guys presumably paid by the hotel. We were met by a young lady at a small reception desk who told us that the place was full. We did not have a reservation... Nevertheless my host decided to show us around this quirky hotel and took us up numerous flights of uneven stairs, past loads of artwork to the rooftop bar. Here we met the rest of the party and the larger than life, friendly owner who reassured us that there would be a table available for us. Some of the staff went scurrying off to prepare a table and, in no time at all we were seated and our drinks orders were being taken. ||||I had a local rum based cocktail served in three tiny glasses. It was quite strong (did not capture the name) and resembled the colour of the water in the tiny swimming pool on the left as you enter the hotel/restaurant.||||I left all the ordering of the food to the locals. I was advised that the chicken was good. We had a least three different versions served on large platters for us all to share. To be honest I did not find the food to be that good. I prefer my food off the bone and this was not the case here.||||After the odd glass of house French wine I moved on to savour the local beer. On this evening I went for the Ivoire beer which came in a large chilled bottle.||||Certainly the atmosphere of this place is special. Service was super friendly and I appreciated the breeze which helped to relieve us a bit from the hot, humid air. We were really lucky that, despite it being the rainy season, the rains kept away so that the whole evening could be...

Stepping into Bushman Cafe is like stepping into the house of someone who has travelled the world and brought back beauty from every corner of the continent.

We were a small group visiting for dinner, one of our members was a band mate and we were invited to play on stage for a few songs. Very impromptu and spontaneous. It was a lovely experience. The food was amazing that evening, and afterwards we received some time with the owner and were treated to a personal tour exploring the whole Restaurant/House. It is an artistic extravaganza of all different mediums and to get to hear and see it through the eyes of the one who curated it was a beautiful exchange.

This is an ambiance where the love for art triumphs over perfection. The food was delicious, and we didn’t have any wait time in that regard. For those who did, perhaps you may not be experienced or familiar with the casual or slower pace of some African eateries. This is a meeting place to sit and look someone at the table in the eyes and engage in inspiring conversation. Take in the surrounding beauty, be with the place, and witness some spontaneous magical moments should they arrive.

Hats off to the owner and the staff here and wish you the best success and continued fostering of the artists spirit.

And, try their chocolate! It’s delicious...

Dear real OWNER of the Bushman Café: Calling the “owner” (what he guy we found there called himself) disrespectful and rude would be an understatement. I went there yesterday with a friend and asked the guard if we can take picture and he said okay. Once we got into the place we saw a man, I greeted him he didn’t answer, my friend did the same, he didn’t reply either. So we kept walking and talking and he was like “When you go somewhere, come inside greet people before taking pictures and stuff, I’m the owner, thanks”. We were shocked coz we went there last year, didn’t have any issue with taking pictures and didn’t saw any “do not take pictures” signs there yesterday. I don’t think that guy is the real owner of the place otherwise he wouldn’t treat his customers like that. Therefore if the owner of this place could go through the review and have a talk with the whoever is there during July 2018 running his castle and setting up rules there, that’ll be great for the future of his business. Coz being surprised by a promotion or cash inflows suddenly coming into his bank account might have doing something wrong to his brain. So just want to know if the place changed into a castle in a year🤷🏾‍♀️ FYI, just put one star so I could review. Google really needs to let us rate...

A bit run down place, but a very interesting concept. This venue houses a restaurant, an art gallery, a chocolate shop and a bar. Throughout the building one can admire several Ivorian objects, such as masks and instruments. (I was told that this place belonged to a former Ivory Coast ambassador who collected the pieces and one day decided to exhibit them.) The restaurant is on the rooftop and, as most of it is not protected from the rain, when it does rain, it turns out to be a bit chaotic to sit guests in the available tables. The food took a while to arrive, but waiting time was compensated by the delicious Poulet Gnamakou (African/Ivorian-style chicken) and the Terrine de Gingenbre (Ginger paste with aubergine tempura). The vegetarian Tagliatelle de Legumes (vegetable tagliatelle) was good, but not memorable. Background music was just loud enough to hear it, but not to interfere with conversation.

The café has an eclectic decor, featuring a wide array of art, antiques, and sculptures. The walls are all huged with framed pictures and artwork, and the first floor ceiling draped with white fabric. Out of that hallway is a stair case with draping natural plant roots. The café has rooms, so also serve as a hotel, a rooftop restaurant, art space, concept store, and museum. The receptionist was really helpful and helped translate some words to the servers at the cafe area. (Although she didn't know much English herself 😉) We were served free cocoa tea, which was delicious. Although we came way earlier than their opening time, they still had patience and accommodated us. Food and music upstairs is a vibe. The whole environment is calming even though you're in the city. 100% recommended.
